Growing up with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones always playing the Jazz Festival in Norfolk I loved Victor. But I grew disinterested after awhile. He's a great instrumentalist but I feel he doesn't always capture the groove that get's ya movin'.

That's sort of an interesting comment comming from a younger bassist. (No disrespect of age implied)
. I play "some" slap...as I grew up cutting the Ric's with a very fast picking style. I am now concentrating on my finger playing style. I have gotton to the point of quickness with my fingers as with a pick, however, I still can control attack better with a pick. But as a young bassist, I also taught myself, from RECORDS...(those big 12" round things)...and the radio. Having the internet at your fingertips, with such class players as Wooten, SHOWING you his secrets....is Fu###ng amazing. I would of been jumping all over this in my younger/starting out days.

Again, no disrespect to your age, just think about the opertunity that you are offered here....free....
Funny - I could've wrote this (except the part about the Ric - owned one for a few months but primarily played a F*nder in my youth).

I swore off the pick when I picked up the bass again... It was frustrating at first and the urge to reach for the pick was always there, but I hung in there.

Unfortunately there's precious little time in my life to devote to alot of this other stuff, but if I was eighteen!

BTW - I believe that clip is from the Bass Day DVD. Wooten rocks!

I went to one of Vic's clinics when he and Bela were in town back in 11/2004, and I found a lot of his instruction to be quite useful and his style very creative.

I'm going to try and catch The Flecktones when they come through town again.

I don't play that style, don't really want to play that style or else I would have at least made an effort to learn it, but I do like to hear almost anyone that's that good at what they do.

Funny I try to practise it a little at home and my wife always says it sounds like a demented hamster trying to get out of a cage. Cool teaching video though. Might have a laugh and try it.

Jaco does still do it for me but I have been getting into Jeff Ament's lines recently he is quite an interesting player.

I have much respect for Vic...........

Word. Monster player, heckuva nice guy.

However, I'll take Larry Graham's slap style any day of the week.

While Im not a slapper, and have zero desire to be one, I will agree that I prefer Marcus Millers groove and tone. However, Wootens command on the bass is what amazes me.
