I've owned 6 or 7 different MusicMans, and I miss each one of them equally. My main bass is my Sparkle Ray, with my MIA P-bass as a backup. Stingray > P-bass.

Aussie Mark - Man you must have an understanding wife. I'll bet you tell her that all those basses are like money in the bank and all they can do is appreciate. Come to think of it, that's not a bad idea, think I'll try that!
Anyway, I only have 2 basses at the moment. One is my old trusty warhorse 1982 Ibanez Musician (pearl white and not as pretty as yours) and my 2004 Sterling. After I got the Sterling the Ibanez just has not come out of the case and only serves as a backup these days.

I think the real question is: Would you take a bullet for your Stingray?

I'm pro any brand that makes an exceedingly high quality product at an outstanding price. EBMM are just one of the few that deliver with those criteria!

I own about 9 basses, have owned god only knows how many. My Sterling and Bongo are the only 2 I ever play anymore. No- that's a lie. I just restrung a Warwick BEAD cuz I had to but after the last gig I played (where I also used my Bongo) I decided the Warwick has to go in order to make room for a 5-string bongo. It almost seems like work to play my other basses. If anyone is interested in a an active corvette email me.

Why my passion for EB basses? 1st but not most importantly, they're the only basses I've ever owned that I've never experienced ANY problems with. Fenders fall apart, my Warwick had parts that needed replacement, lots of stuff has gone on with the other basses I've owned.

2nd - they're the most consistent guitars I've ever played - meaning if someone stole my Sterling it wouldn't destroy me cuz I know I could replace it immediately. Any Sterling I ever picked up feels and sounds exactly like mine lest the difference in setup. I feel the same about the Bongo except I really like my color and I'd probably have to wait to get the same thing.

3rd - the Sterling gave me the sound I was always looking for. Punchy, funky - and it cut through anything like a razor. It actually frightened me first gig because you could hear every nuance of my playing, even over my drummers slamming cymbals. That's become something I can't live without.

The only thing I felt I was missing with the Sterling was a little bit of bottom end (I had gotten used to the Warwick) and some versatility. Enter the Bongo - and enter heaven - for me anyhow. It was like injecting thunder into my Sterling, and adding a couple of other basses just for fun. I can get a Jaco like sound that still has bottom to it and really cuts. I can get the dubbiest sounds I've ever heard. I can make it sound pretty much like anything I want it to, and the sounds are all really rich, deep and full. I owned an American P-bass deluxe for a while hoping it would give me everything the Bongo does. The Bongo makes the P-bass sound and feel like a toy. Ya don't have to take my word for it either - go to any Guitar Center and A/B them yoursself. There's no comparison.

Blahblahblahblabh... I could go on and on and on. Forgot to mention that they just feel right to me. That's an entirely personal thing though. There. I'm done.

There are a lot of other makers and many of them make nice instruments.Over the years EB has built quite a fanbase for their product. This is their forum so one would hope the opinions here are positive and they generally are.
From my experience EB make gorgeous instruments and their customer service is second to none. The other companies could learn a lot from EB's customer service.I for one am thankfull that EB kept MusicMan going , I think it has worked out fine.I have and use other basses but I do love my Stingray.

my others include three hollow body short scale basses, a urb, and a nice selection of Leo's designs ( from a SCPB to a L2500)

I've accumulated most of those basses since I got divorced (no more horses to feed and maintain), but my new partner is very supportive of my addiction. Fortunately we both make good money, so she spends hers on clothes and I spend mine on gear.

Why EB basses?

Well I suppose in the solitute of the studio, the bass of the moment might make do, but in the total confusion of the "normal" gig, you can't beat a bass that works all of the time, and can take some abuse. After my Hofner, Rickenbacker, Gibson(ugh!), Fender "experimentation in the 60's and 70's thanks to Leo/Ernie for the Stingrays and their brothers the Sterling Bongo and SR5 (ok Sabres too). MMEB basses work all of the time every time, weather, humidity, idiot roadies, (wives), notwithstanding. And they are probably the most popular with the soundmen of the world. The SR5 rules the waves in country, and the Stingray made the bass finally cut through the mix like no other. Dan Lakin used the 'Ray as his inspiration for his basses.

They are just the best for the money, period.
