does anybody have experience with both the luke 3's ?
I can only try out the HH and I think it's cleans are stellar and every position is usable
I do not own a single coil instrument right now... but my inclination is to go HH

what say you Luke 3 fans??

I love the singles on the HSS. Of course the bucker sounds incredible too. I'm sure I'd love the HH model as well but for me it's HSS. nice tonal variety, especially if you want something different, pickup wise.

Don't tempt me Mario... I'm itching for something with a Roeswood neck! By the way, did you play the HH Luke 3 at the GC in Vegas when you were out?

Oh Mat, you should definitely take the plunge. Rosewood neck goodness with monster tone.

I didn't get a chance to make it out to the GC, bummer. I really want to check out the HH model.

BTW, I love your wife's taste in guitars! Please have her call my wife.

Hey hey, first post...woop etc.

I've just purchased a HSS version (my first MM). I'm normally a HH guy, the change was part of the lure for me.

Sandy is screwing up it's arrival time, hopefully it'll be here soon!

Are there any good videos on adjusting the boost/pup volume, has anyone done this?? maybe the enclosed directions make it easy??

I got a welcome chance to play both side by side at Bass Central in the Orlando area. I went in expecting to like the HH more, but I actually preferred the HSS. The HH five way switching scheme to me just seems awkward, particularly in a gig situation. That's why I changed out my Albert Lee HH to a three way switch, with 'bucker sized P-90s.

For me, the HSS configuration was a bit more versatile tonally, too. I absolutely adore the sound of a neck position single coil.

That preamp (aka boost) is the bee's knees! Love that!

Luke III HH - tried last sunday at a guitar show in Milan (Luke was there, too. Photo or it didn't happen attached), sounds AWESOME! Cleans are amazing. And crunch in position 2 and 4 are great as well.

If I'm playing blues with a Luke I want HSS. Can't speak to the jazz comment as jazz isn't my thing much. I bought a Luke because I wanted a guitar with a single coil neck pickup and the Luke guitars have the best sounding single coil neck pups I've heard. That goes for the EMG or the new Dimarzio's in the Luke III's. Both are fabulous pickups.

Man, still loving the hell out of the HSS model! I'm sure the HH model rips it as it seems to be Luke's choice these days.

Ty for your comments and I'm sure it will be fine . My problem is GC only had the HH in stock so the HSS will have to be a special order which according to GC it will not be returnable . I purchased the HH and it so be here in a week but something tells me I will be exchanging this for the HSS and by the way when I say jazz I'm talking steely Dan , Jeff golub jazz. Ty again

Please tell me what distinguishes the HH from the HSS in terms of tones and overall sounds of each guitar in their clean settings . Would love to get you thoughts on each .peace

I like the Transition full neck position and there apparently isn't any drop-off (noticeably)on 2 & 4 where the hums are split. 2& 4 sound different...may take a bit of getting used to..kinda generic and clinical.. However, this was thru my Classic 30..likely to sound better through my Boogie. The boost is on the volume pot instead of the tone on my HSS...makes a little more sense I suppose. The Roasted Maple neck is nice, it doesn't have the oil/wax on it like the all rosewood neck that the HSS has..of course its beautiful. The finish is like an ice blue with light sparkle..its gorgeous. Its a nice and opposite from the HSS but has the same feel. this isn't a full tone review, but it does cleans well and sems to be as powerful, if not more so than the HSS. Hope this helps
