My main gig rig is SWR SM400 thru Goliath Jnr 2x10 and Son of Bertha 1x15. I also have a Blue Tube pre with Yamaha P4500 power amp rack for larger gigs, and an Ampeg SVT-100T 2x8 for living room practice.

I'm all Ashdown.

ABM-500EVO Head plus two 4x8 cabs.

and it all fits in the boot(trunk) of my car with no need to fold the rear seats down (you all know how small European cars are)

For the moment I have a Trace Elliot. My next "serious" amp will definitely be the EBS Fafner, for me the "big daddy" of all amps.
In the short run(and due to economic restrictions) I'm planning to buy a preamp. I'll need some advice here. I'm considering
a)The new SVPCL Ampeg
b)The SVP-PRO Ampeg
c)The BBE BMAX

Tell me what you think if any of you have used them.

Let me guess......
Are you using a clean/direct signal? The U5 is a COOL DI but I doubt if I would just rest on my natural signal. Some preamp muscle never hurt anyone....

When concerning Avalon products I used the VVT 737 SP channel strip as a preamp. Now sold it but I will get one again some time....

ya, I've run into a little bit of that but I really am digging just a nice clean signal and for the gigs that are in big venues, I'm usually using in ears and I love the sound of the SR5 through the U5.... although the Quest pre-amp from Epifani looks intriguing but I'm diggin' the clean at this point. ;)
Also, regardless of pre's, FOH is always going to have to eq and I figure if the U5 has done me well in the studio, I like it's sound and I know that FOH is gonna like it too so everyone's happy

As of Friday lunchtime, my new rig (well a mini rig actually) is the recently released Gallien Krueger Mark IV 400RB head into a GK RBS 2x10 cabinet.

As we gigged three times over the weekend, I really got a good opportunity to try it out in very different surroundings.

Everyone commented on the punch and richness of the sound.

The in-house engineer last night was really impressed with the quality of the bass sound coming from my Stingray through this new rig.

Hopefully this has been a good investment.
