I don't often get a chance to use my setup, a Trace Elliot 7210 300W 2x10 combo with 1x15 extension cab. I generally hire amps or use studio amps.

I used to use Ampeg SVT heads into ampeg 8x10 cabs, but lately I've been using an Ashdown ABM EVO300 (IIRC) into the Ampeg 8x10. Much better sound.

How's that GS212 working out for you? Any serious dislikes? I'm considering getting one, and since it's going to be my only cab on stage I wanne be absolutely sure it can hold it's own.

Hehheh... It's actually alright for me. It's just that I'm absolutely sure that my combo amp pales in comparison to all the setups and amps you guys've got. :p But as far being content, I'm quite content. I probably won't be if those lovely amps suddenly drop a few hundred in their price - then I'll start moaning and groaning about how lousy my amp is. :D

It's great, I keep the horn turned way down (not quite all the way, but close. But i don't like a ton of brightness..

It's got a lot of volume and punch, and depending what you run through it, it can indeed hold its own, i'm adding either a second 2x12 or a 1x15 when i get back to seattle, but thats just because that's the way I am, i always need more.

but, i do highly recommend them, incredibly hard to find one that is used in case you are going to be looking.

thanks

Wow....sounds like everyone that replied has some awesome amps!!!

The trouble with amps like these is that you can't really use them at home... you need a decent studio to rehearse in.

When I was your age, I was using a Squier 15W 1x8 combo.

Amp+ Rig

Mesa 400+ amp with a Mesa 6x10 cab. The 10" speakers are high
risk but, damn the tone is very very crisp with a 5 string Stingray.

Mesa 400+

Question to anyone who owns or owned a 400+...(Spectorbassguy) I must have a really rare 400+. My amp specs are the usual 12 tube, with pull switches etc. But My amp reads 600 watts and only has a six band EQ setting as opposed to the seven which every 400+ has. As well the date on my amp says made in Petaluma 1982. I called Mesa Boogie, and told them that but they must have thought that I was lying or something because they started making those amps after 1982... Weird. Sounds awesome though, Just high maintenance as any heavily tubed amp will be. Anyone know what's going on here?

Various cabs - but I'm getting a couple classic Ampeg cabs in the next few weeks - or maybe days - who knows!!! :p

I like reserve power!

Current rig:

Bongo 5-->Fishman Pro Bass II-->GK1001RB-->Aguilar GS112 and EA CXL110.

My VBass is starting to make more and more appearances at gigs, so if you add all of the amp models in there, I can get any sound I want. Yee Haw. :D

I'll also have aPhil Jones Briefcase portable amp whenever they finally ship. That will probably see a lot of acoustic gigs with my blues guitar player and either my 6 string ABG, or my DeArmond Ashbory.

I've gone from big and heavy to small and versatile. I'm too tired to move heavy cabs and heads afte 3 hour gigs--especially since I have to hit two flights of stairs when I get home. I like to get basses, head, and two cabs in one trip, and I can actually do that now. I'll usually break it down to two trips so I'm not carrying 120 lbs at one time, but it's nice to know I can get it one trip if I am feeling lazy.

Currently:
SWR Silverado Special (2x12) on top of a SWR Big Ben (1x18) on the bottom. All of that run through a BassPod XT. Nice, light (compared to my old tower), easy to setup and break down - and best of all it cuts through all of the stage clutter.

On occasion (bigger rooms), I run a clean signal to a second Silverado Special to get some extra punch.

It sounds great but he sad part about it is it looks god-awful on stage. Chrome reflecting every where - it looks pretty tacky. Such is the life of a bass player - attracting attention however we can! :D

Did some research and found the following link for a Mesa 400, not 400+. It has the 6 band EQ instead of 7 so I'll bet yours is a 400. The 400+ is just the newer model I believe.:)

amp

It very well could be but, Not only does the amp say 400+ on the outside housing, But the amp is rated higher than the 400+'s and when Mesa Boogie looked at it for repair once, they reffered to it as a 400+...???
