So, what are some of your all time favorite guitar solos? Doesn't have to be a technical marvel...just what ever hits your emotions and seems to fits the song perfectly.

Here are a few of mine:

Time - Pink Floyd_Gilmour (simply brilliant)
Sultans of Swing - Knopfler

I know I'm forgetting some of my favorites...but wanted to get the ball rolling and see what you guys/gals have.

Just because I recently put the cd in the truck, check out the P.I.L track 'Ease'

Steve Vai adds a legendary outro solo from about the 5:37 mark that to this day, still amazes me.

Lots of great solos out there, but the first one that came to mind when I read the thread title is Steve Morse's solo at 2:20 on Battle Lines.

This could indeed be a long thread, but a fun one as we revive all those great solos....

One for me is Vito Bratta's solo on Little Fighter.........

The 80's was a magical decade for guitar players.......

I like the guitar solo by Paul Kossoff on Mr Big that melds with the fabulous bass solo ending in a crescendo that still gives me goosepimples to this day.

Luke's solo on Running with the night is masterpiece.

I hate the guy's current constant shredding.. some of his past solo's are absolutely the best examples of tone, feel , taste, note choice and vibrato ever recorded.

Just my humble opinion.

No particular order:

- Gilmour / Comfortably Numb

- Clapton / Crossroads

- Van Halen / Mean Street

- Eric Johnson / Trademark

- JP / Lost Without You

- Jeff Beck / Where Were You

- Angus Young / Whole Lotta Rosie

- Joe Walsh, Don Felder / Hotel California

- Luke / I'll Be Over You & his version of Little Wing

- Elliot Easton / You're All I've Got Tonight

- Mick Taylor / Can't You Hear Me Knockin'

- Kirk Hammett / One

That's just my short list....

Easy, if it's played by:

Brett Garsed
Allen Hinds
Robben Ford
Larry Carlton
Charlie Christian
or
Danny Gatton

I'm probably trying to figure out what they're doing!

dude, you NEED to un-Dorian your stuff!

LOL, it actually seems to be a lot of Lydian for Garsed and Hinds, Mixolydian for Ford and Carlton with some added 6th Pentatonic thrown in, Charlie Bebop's his way through, and Danny Gatton is a total mystery to me...he was all over the map.

I try to take inspiration from as many sources as possible, but it just seems like lately I'm on a kick with those artists. I still regularly listen to Eric Johnson, John Petrucci, Joe Bonamassa, and Steve Morse as well.

I'll Second this

Gilmour - Comfortably Numb <--Unbelieveably smooth/rhythmic/melodic.

Perhaps this is just a given, and why it has not been mentioned yet in an EVH friendly forum by default...

Eruption.
