Sears mail order LP copy POS.
Bridge was installed incorrectly and at my first lesson my teacher told me it needed to be intonated. Took it to a music store and they told it couldn't be intonated properly due to the bridge.
$200 repair OR buy a used Hohner SG copy.
I took the Hohner.

My first electric was a used Ovation Breadwinner... bought in 1976, I wanted one because Glen Campbell played one on his show a couple times (my acoustic was an Ovation too). It looked just like this one:
I had a choice between this, a 50s or 60s Strat for the same price, or a late 50s burst Les Paul for $125 more - I chose the Ovation... I want a time machine!!
Anyway, it wasn't a very good guitar - small neck, tiny frets, rough cuts and cheezy finish, really anemic pickups - but it was better than a lot of them that were out there then... Trivia: it was the very first production guitar with active electronics, which were pretty cool, even if they were 18 volt (req'd TWO 9-volt batteries in the back)...

That's gotta hurt. I'm guessing that Les Paul was probably less than $2000 at the time. Probably worth $250,000 now.

My very first electric was a "Dana", and it was a 2 pickup, short scale Str*t type with a Bigsby styled vibrato bar. I could only afford the guitar at first, no amp. I still remember my mother asking me to "plug it into the wall" so she could hear it...That was back in 1973.

Yeah it sure is - I have fond memories from my 2 visits to St Louis.
I remember buying Levi Jeans from Webster Groves, visiting a few music shops Fast Eds on Broadway, Gravity Strings.
I hope to make another visit to St Louis in the next year or so.
