Hi banjoplayer thanks for the info, I can only compare this to what I have owned in the past. That is two American one Jap and one Mex strat. the only one I really liked was the jap 50s reissue photoflame which was purchased new in the early 90s. I havn"t found the pickups thin on my cutlass but I might just of been lucky. My mate has a American strat I think purchased in 2000 and that has pickups in it that sound overwound to us, his luthier friend says its definitely one of the

Wouah! You bumped an old thread.

I don't know if you saw my post of when I got my Cutlass but here are, in a brief, how I feel about the guitar a few months later:

Body contour and color... Still digging it, honeymoon ain't over. I really wish you could get a real EBMM Cutlass with the Seafoam green!

Neck contour/profile. For a someone used to thin neck (read JP6/RG550), I really like the V-neck shape on my Cutllass. Very comfortable.

Ruff fret edges... Don't know if it's the climate up North (I'm in Canada) but they are almost gone.

Low output stock pickups... Well, I hated them at first, but now, they grew on me. I must be getting old but these are staying. I thought changing them but hell know, I'll abuse them as they are. Really diggin' them.

I have a few clips of my Cutlass and Boss Katana on my Youtube page. Just look around.

Hope it helps and feel free to ask questions.

Just got a Sterling Cutlass and have a question for those that owns one. Is the bridge pickup hotter than the rest? When I use it with high gain amps or pedal, the bridge pickup tend to squeal quite a bit (microphonic).

Have you tried lowering the pickup? No issues on mine. One thing for sure about my Cutlass, the pickups are low output. Took me a while but they grew on me.

Yeah. Tried that but the bridge pickup will squeal as soon as the volume on the guitar goes above 3 (when using high gain amp).

Looking forward to hearing how the trip goes and what you bring home :)
Safe travels, and keep us posted!

i think the pups in the SSS could be more versatile. i cant really seem to get any classic strat tones but it cops the single coil vibe well enough.

2 years later from my post above, I have a "love-hate" relationship with the pickups in my Cutlass... Hard to describe but they do not do it for me. I just don't know what to try in it?
