I'm just curious. What strings do you guys sport on your low end machines? On my StingRay 5, i've got nickelplated Fenders and on my 2 Fernandes basses, I have Hartkes. What are you guys using? What makes their tone stick out from the others? Just a few questions I figured i'd ask.

Here we go again :D

Me, I prefer TI Flats on my fretless basses (Stingray, G&L L2000, 39" Scroll) and my passive fretted basses (Fenders), with some exceptions - my Gibson EB-4L and Ripper respond nicely to Dean Markley flats, as does my Iceman. On the other hand, my active fretted basses (Stingray, Bongo, Les Paul) and high output passive basses (Thunderbirds, Ricky copy) all wear D'Addario Chromes, which I personally believe are the duck's nuts for rock. My active Ibanez Musician (aka. the grandfather of the Bongo) wears TI Flats as well, but I'm sure would sound equally as good wearing Chromes. To digress a little, the Ibanez Musician is the bass in my herd that comes closest to replicating the Bongo balls to the wall sound.

I love the expressiveness I can get from TI Flats, but the Chromes have better tension for filling out the bottom end in a trio.

Depends on the bass...

Of the three basses I've noted below, these are the strings that work for me:

Fretted Sterling -> D'Addario Chromes
Acoustic Tacoma -> Elixir Polyweb
Fretless Bongo -> Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats (Strings waiting on the bass!)

Someday when drunk enough or hyptonized I will tell you the truth about strings. Until then go forward and be happy
Keep your eyes fixed on this here watch....you're getting sleepy.....sleepy........now then, you will PM whamonkey the truth.......then walk around the factory in a tutu.

right now, there are Elixir Nanoweb's in my Stingray, and I must say, I really like them. I had played Elixir's before (on my OLP), and when I was in the shop recently, I just thought to try something else than Slinky's. So far so good, I like both, but I don't know which ones I prefer

I drive a hard bargin, so when I ordered my SR5 I made them throw in 3 sets of EBMM strings for FREE!

... They were out of stock when they shipped the bass and it took a week for the strings to come in, shipping was a little high though, $79.00 but they arrived in great shape!

Currently Power Slinkies.

I've been alternating these and La Bella flats for the last few months.

Need a compromise between the two. Flats feel and round sound.

Try the D'Addario Half Rounds....sounds like the ticket for you. I loved them on my acoustic bass, before I sold it that is. Nice feel, almost flat, but definitely have some zing.
