Greetings,

I purchased a Music Man Stingray 5, brand new in 2001. I have other basses, but the Ibanez and Peavey do not compare with the playing and tone. About 4 years ago, the PA guys at church started complaining about a static noise coming from the bass: I have also heard same complaints from 2 other large (3000 members+) churches. I have been told to tell the PA guys to pad the bass, and the problem still persists. Over the years, I have changed the jack, 3 or 4 times, and have noticed that this cuts down on the static significantly and makes it tolerable. I have taken it to Guitar Center, and 2 other recommended guitar techs. The first guitar tech I took the bass to messed up the 3 way switch and the bass would only make sound in the closet to neck position. When I took bass to Guitar Center, the tech kept the bass for a couple of weeks, explaining how hard the wiring diagram was to obtain. Finally, he fixed the switch by acquiring diagram from Music Man. However, it seemed like there was less difference in sound after it was repaired, than when I first purchased the bass. After getting discouraged with the problem, I decided to try and work on the bass some myself. I have eliminated most of the static, but the overall sound output of bass seems lower than it should be. When the bass is plugged into an amp, there is no static whatsoever. I feel like this is why the repair guys, look at me like I'm crazy. However, I have heard the static through the house speakers and Avion. Are there any authorized Music Man repair centers, or can you send it in to Music Man? I love this bass, and I would love to have everything looked at and sounding like new once again!, Thank you for any suggestions.

EBMM will fix it. Shipping for my SR5 was $75 and
I live in NY, so thaz about the max there. EBMM
enclosssed a new set of Slinkys for the SR5 and if
that is normal procedure, then that helps take a
bit of sting outa the shipping. Acoarst if you are a
lot closer to SLO then that reduces shipping.

Do you still have this bass and if so are you willing to sell? My Dad (Bobby Bowen) used to play for a band in the 80's and 90's called "Midsouth Boys" or later just "Midsouth" and he had a bass exactly like yours, blue pearl color and all. I was wanting to buy one for his birthday (October 28th) this year because his was stolen in the early 2000's and that was his favorite bass he's had and he talks about it a lot.
