Hi,
I recently purchased a Luke III and asked the shop to change the gauge form 0.9 to 0.10. They did add a spring and did some work on the bridge but I wanted to ask if it's necessary to do something with the nut? I read on the FAQ that you should widen it but it seems to work fine right now.

Thanks!

Like beej said - its minor. If you find a string(s) that are having tuning problems, could put a little dab of Big Bends Nut Sauce in the slot(s).

Hello

If it works fine, don't touch it ! You can have to widen the nut on the low E when you go to 52 or more. But with 10-46 strings, no worry.

I haven't had to for any EBMM guitars I have had, but definitely check the lower strings to see if they fit in the slot before taking off all of the old strings. Sometimes the Low A or E won't fit, and you don't want to force it. I learned the hard way.

I can't think of a reason NOT to put nut sauce or graphite in the nut. I do it every string change.

I'm curious - for graphite, I've just been taking a mechanical pencil lead and rubbing it in the slots, but at least one of my guitars I'm still getting binding and the Bigsby throws it out of tune if I'm a little too enthusiastic (a Gretsch, which has a Gibson-style angled string pull). So, I'm wondering if maybe pencil lead isn't enough in the graphite department?
