NBD 2006 US SUB

Hey all. New here and just received my 2006 Cinnamon US SUB today. It's in incredible condition. One little knock near the volume knob just off the control plate. Having a bit of trouble dialing in a low action. I'll let it settle a bit. If I can't get it where I like, I'll get it to my tech. Truss rod is nicely responsive. Just a hair tight. This is my first MM of any flavor so finding my preamp settings is taking a bit. Any advice or pointers about this bass would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum. Good catch and an excellent Bass. Same 2EQ preamp and pickup as found in the Sting Ray Bass of that period. In fact, the SUB is a Sting Ray but they economized on the finishes to keep the price down.

A neck shim was my first thought but I’m thinking it may need some fret leveling as well. The thing is insanely clean and untouched. I removed some protective film that was around a few of the pickguard screws and the film was also still clean. Considering a pickguard change but I like keeping things original if I can. Also, some new strings. What’s on there now seems heavy.

If you want to stay original, the SUB Bass had the option of a matte black pick guard. I'm fairly sure a standard single pickup Sting Ray guard would fit (except the new Special Sting Rays from 2018).

Maybe try a lighter set of strings. Originals were Super Slinky Round Wounds 45. 65. 80. 100. Pink pack 2534. I have them on all my Basses

Yes a regular stingray pg will fit. You can also flip the pg over and it will work. I painted one of mine using the back side on top. Also, I leveled the fretsf orm the 12 up to achieve low low action.

Any suggestions or hints for loosening up the truss wheel? Like I said up above, the rod seems to react well to adjustments but the wheel seems tight in either direction.

loosen it all the way and put a bit of graphite between the nylon washer and the wood.
