I have (mildly obsessively and compulsively [but it is not a disorder!]) been keeping an eye on the Ernie Ball Music Man site for signs of new BFR (Ball Family Reserve) guitars, and it appears that the year 2026, now a quarter through, has not seen any BFRs yet.

I am curious as to whether there is a planned release, fully cognisant of the fact that those who know do not say, and those who say do not know. 😉

Is there a general schedule of BFR releases, or is it a matter of whenever the Ball family decides to release something?

I wonder what we can expect in 2026.

Personally, I would like to see an amazing Luke 4 BFR, but on the other hand, I do not want to see a Luke 4 BFR, as depending on what it is, I would want it!

Please share your thoughts about what we can expect, or what you would like to see.

Haha, I do the same — watching for BFRs is half the fun! There’s no set schedule; they release them whenever the Ball family decides. A Luke 4 BFR would be amazing… but then I’d probably obsess over whether I need it too. Can’t wait to see what surprises 2026 brings!

I think it may be because of all the 30ths being released now.

The release of anniversary instruments could be a consideration.

I was wondering whether anniversary models are considered to be BFR instruments, but looking at the product images of the 30th anniversary issues of the Luke 4, Axis and StingRay5, there is no sign of a BFR designation in any of the usual places.

They do not appear to be designated as BFR models, but like those and other Limited Edition issues, they are certainly special and very limited in number.

Interestingly, the 25th anniversary Luke does have 'BFR' stamped on the neck plate.

It looks like we will need to live in anticipation until a new BFR instrument is announced!

I would love to own a Luke BFR, but having bought two Lukes this year alone, I might have exhausted my guitar acquisition credit. 😉
