I've owned a Bongo 4HH for about a month now. Is it the BEST bass? I don't know. Does it sound good? Yes. Does it play well? Yes. Will some people not like it? Sure. Will some love it? Sure.

I haven't owned a crappy bass in about 30 yrs (my first being a Kay bass).

Is the Bongo the end all of end all basses? Probably not. But I like the way it plays. The neck is nice. It's comfortable in my hand. I like the adjustable wheel truss rod (a big plus).

Can I get a lot of different sounds out of it? I don't know. Haven't quite figured out all the variables with the knobs yet (probably never will). Perhaps someone will write a good explanation of how to really use it to it's potential.

Was it a Howling Wolf?? Talk about 2x4 necks!!

No. It was red and shaped like a Gibson SG guitar. Looked cool but the strings were about an inch off the fb.

Is a Peavey T-40 heavier than a Kay?

Toss a coin but both are heavier than what a Bongo is and both of them together can't kick a bongo's butt.

The Bongo isn't the end for sure it is the beginning.

This isnt directed to anyone since i dunno the original topic.....

i never honestly understand when people badmouth basses/guitars after they buy em and the instrument doesnt meet their expectations. you did buy it right? you either went to a store and gave it a wirl or bought online and based expectations on text upon a computer screen.

ive bought stuff that i wasnt too happy with. why'd i buy it? i dunno ... but i did buy it. i tried it at a store, maybe had way too much GAS, figured i had to have it cuz "<insert famous name here> plays that bass" or the picture looked cool on ebay. I mean ... ya, i wasnt happy w/ some purchases but it was my fault. either i got itchy and bought something i didn't need/want or didnt bother playing the instrument thru a rig like mine before pulling the trigger. its not like someone put a gun to my head and said "buy this I&^&%z bass".

Very well said.
I hope nobody buys what I like unless they are just like me. That is not possible I think but...

Ahh yes, sure it is but the Ovation Magnum was as far ahead of it's time (in it's day) as the Bongo is in modern day. First bass to my recollection to have used graphite in the necks.

Exackery...... if you play at a store always play through the same **** as you have at home... if you are buying online without testing their is always several risks.

I've had a Bongo or two for a few months now and I'm still impressed and feel that I've only scratched the surface. I mean the stuff you can get with just the blend knob alone... I mean dayum!

With the Bongo 5 H/S and this MarkBass amp the sound is huge, even at low volume... if that makes sense...

I look forward to the single H Bongo 5 (from Jack and Steve), I just know it's going to rock! (... well I'm a hillbilly, but it's going to rock!)

Stick around and see how we are a family here. I have personally met many of the "fanboys/fangirls" here and they are super cool people.
