It just forces me to turn my amp up louder than I usually had before I got it. It just sounds sooooooo amazing with lots of volume! I love this thing - it completely has taken over my playing time and is just changing me. Never thought I'd be a SC guy. I think I've been infected somehow......you know, how everything from California seems to be tainted these days? ;) :D

I've got AL!!!! I'm afraid there is no cure - you can only treat the symptoms. By playing. And playing more, and louder. Oy...............

Strangely enough, I seem to have that very same problem with my Axis SS. It must be some kind of conspiracy or terrorist plot!

Ha ! I'm working till 22:00 tonight so just about to leave. But I have just come away from my AL and Marshall set up which was well cranked up - I feel so pumped 'cos of the sounds I have just got noodling around my pentatonic repetoire.
Feel the force !!!!

Edit: - if you do find the cure - keep it well away from me - now weep you AL disbelievers LOL! ;) :D

i know you were being serious about you AL GAS and that it makes you want to play louder and longer it just happens when u get an AL........BUTyou are correct when i go from my silo to my Axis its ok but when i plug in my AL the volume does drop considerably ,so u turn it up i think Zinky makes a db boost pedal to even out going from double coil to single coil guitars

I think at least part of the charm of the AL must be in underwound pickups. Low gain but great clarity. And since tube amps only sound better when they're cranked up, it all happens together.

Almost got one but decided on another Sil Sp. I may yet though.

How would you guys say the necks are different between the AL and Sil Special?

How would you guys say the necks are different between the AL and Sil Special?

Similar width at the nut and body with the same radius. Although I think you would call them both C shaped, the AL has a bit more girth to it, with the Silo feeling shallower finger side to thumb side.

Spudmurphy did a profile of the AL in an old thread
So I got out a profile guage (used for copying wierd profiles/shapes on ceramic tiles) and gingerly took the profile at three different spots on the neck:-
Nut - 41 mm wide
5 th fret 46 mm wide
12 th fret 51 mm wide

Edit Aug '06...
I have just measured the thickness of the neck (very carefully as I couldn't find my plastic vernier guage - I had to use a metal one  )

The thickness (Girth) of the neck at the nut and 5th fret is 22mm and the 12 fret is a "gnats gonad" more - seems like 22.5 mm.

Hope this photo and info helps people to understand the profile and shape of the neck.
