I have a JP6. And Im toying with having the frets replaced with some Dunlop 6000s. That is my favorite fretwire. I like the JPs frets but Id really like some mad huge frets! Anyone ever have this done to their JP? I have a licenesed luthier that can do it, I assume EB wont do it. Right?

Are you sure it's that much bigger?

From what I understand, the fretwire on the JP's is the bass fretwire used on EB basses.

It is bigger than 6100 but smaller than 6000, considering how close the two are togther, it's probably not worth it.

For comparison:

Dunlop 6100 /.055"(1.40mm)/.110"(2.79mm)
Dunlop 6000 /.058"(1.47mm)/.118"(3.00m)

I dont think the JPs frets are that big. (maybe Ive just warn them down alot ;) ) But they arnt as big as the frets on my Fender YJM strat nor my Ibanez S-1620 Prestiege. They are actually smaller than my Carvin DC200s medium jumbos!

You are probably looking at the width of the fret when comparing to the Ibanez. It's the height that matters.

I can tell you this though, the are bigger than any Ibanez guitar I've ever owned (including the only one I have left, a JPM1).

They are not quite as big as the YJM (I wasn't saying they were), they are just as wide but .3mm shorter.

Seriously, is it worth the damage to your fingerboard for that?

Maybe in width, but not in height.

Get a mm ruler and measure. :)

My JP7's have bigger fretwire than my PRS's, lone Ibanez or the Warmoth I built with 6105.

I think I will measure it, because my JP has the smallest fretwire in width AND height of any of my guitars. My PRS is next in line, and then after that it's anyone's guess.

But I will definitely look into it, because from sight and feel, it feels the smallest.
