OK

We've all got them......albums in our collection that are so far from 'cool' we hide them away when anyone comes round so they don't laugh at our terrible taste.

But you know what? They sound good and when no else is around we crank them up and indulge ourselves in the guilty pleasure of listening to really uncool music.

I'll start off with my first admission.

Cherry Pie by Warrant. Zero credibility but what an album! Uncle Tom's Cabin is just full on fun metal madness! Who cares if they brought in extra guitarists to play on it.

So, anyone else ready to come clean about their guilty pleasure?:D

My 3 Winger CDs
My Bon Jovi CDs
I've got one of the Britney Spears CDs burned for me by a friend.
Justin Timberlake - Justified also burned for me
I'm sure there are some others.

I admit it! I'm a huge Veggie tales fan!

No that feels better doesn't it.

Phew!

Also on the "I'm not really that cool" list:

Chuck Mangione
Dokken
The Cars
Earth Wind and Fire
Asia - I like Yes better, though
BTW - 1980's Yes ;)
and of course what collection would be complete without: The Go-Go's

(To some these might not be out of character - but I was one of those Pantera, Iron Maiden, etc. types)

guilty pleasures

Hey guys! Sorry its been so long. I finished for this year and did the turkey hang back east with the in laws. happy holidays to ALL!

Yeah, guilty pleaures..haha *I* was Trey Anastasios guilty pleasure. A rather back handed compliment. I -( my band even worse) take SOoooo much Sh*t and have for almost 30 years. We are the "gay uncle" of rock n roll. Fun to dig and hang out with till one of your "cool" friends comes over. I have learnd to laugh it off as I am working makin $$ playin music. Some dig what I do, some hate it. At least I get a reaction. hahaha
In order to be IN this biz you must have a VERY thick skin. Internet lurkers are the worst as they are invisible and very mean sometimes. On the other hand there are really positve people as well. apples and oranges. Who gives a f*ck what OTHER people think anyway. if you dig the Cars, good on ya. they made some very good records. EWF is NOT a guilty pleasure as everyone digs them. Phillip Baily was at our gig in LA at the Wiltern. Oh..maybe someone saw him there?? HEeelp! hhaha ya dig!
Music is art and art is subjective!!!!!!!! Like beauty. Does the blind man think the girl across the room is ugly? I could go on. Dare to be yourselves and f*ck everyone that doesnt dig it. Thats whats wrong with the world. Too many followers and not enough leaders !! I mean if Elvis costello came out and said he LOVED Cherry Pie would you then think it was cool ?? hahaha I love a great pop song, a great Mahavishnu song and a great Motorhead song etc.. why not??? Be diverse. Its more fun.
Now, having said all that, there is music *I* think sucks but then again, thats MY opinion NOT the ultimate review.
OK, coffee has kicked in high gear. Must let the elephant outta the rear. hahaha
have a nice day y'all

Well, being a Dream Theater fanatic doesn't make me cool in anyone's eyes in most of the mainstream. Most of all, most women. ;) :(

#1 DT fan here too - but I've converted the women in my life to them - I brought my wife and daughter to the last show they played around here.

As luke said, it's all subjective.

I dig great bands like Toto, King's X, Rush etc etc.

But then l dig bands like Nickelback, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls.

And the last 3 bands get a beating (esp. Nickelback) from fans of like Dream Theater (not meaning to single anyone out), cause it's not technically challenging, some of the best songs are 4 chord chunkers, hell how can they bag Nickelback and then say a band like AC/DC rule in the same sentence, they use pretty much the same chords over and over, and same song structure.

So l don't think there isn't a good or bad song.

If you dig a song thats considered lame, who cares, crank it, if it makes you feel good about yourself and you are having fun, isn't that the whole point of music.

Scott.

Righteous post Lucious!

If you dig an album then fair enough enjoy it. Opinions are like assholes - everyone has one!

At one point my CD changer in the car had Sting and Slayer......

Isnt diversity great!

I like everything, rap, disco, pop all manner of stuff. Whilst rock music in all its forms is probably my favourite, I hear a disco track like Altern8's 'Free' and it makes me want to boogie! Then I might hear 'Seek and destroy' by Metallica and love that too! Diversity is important! It opens your ears to new sounds and makes you a better musician.

Folks

Don't take this thread too seriously. We all know that there are only two types of music....good and bad right?

This thread was intended to be a bit of a laugh, posting the things you like that are considered 'uncool', even though we all know it doesn't really matter.

Right, just going to pop my Carpenters CD in!:D

OK I'll admit it......

I like all of the Anastasia CDs.

Dave

That's the spirit!:D

My kids have got a 'party' CD with Busted's version of the Thunderbirds theme (from the film?)

It's great!

Did Busted ever make their presence felt in the US?
