Guilty pleasures!

I'm so glad nobody chimed in on Duran Duran. They rock! Oops. Did I just say that out loud? Consider their Pulitzer Prize winning lyrics:

I think that at one time, I may have been embarrassed about some of the music that I have in my collection.

Times change though and so do musical tastes. Nowadays, I wouldn't hide anything away from anyone. The music that I like is a reflection on the person that I am and if people want to mock my choices, then I guess I'm big enough to accept that.

I think that my friends and family have come to realise that I'm likely to have anything on the cd player and that I don't really care if it's 'cool' or not.

It's all good (apart from my own stuff) :)

Actually, I forget who said it but it was someone you wouldn't expect... maybe Vincent Furnier (who plays Alice Cooper onstage).. anyway either Vince or some other real rocker-type once said something to the effect that one band that's never given a bad show is Duran Duran.
 
Well i still listen to the Bee Gee's ,Boney M, and Eddie Grant sooooooooooo i love all kinds of music and for me Disco Never died i cut my teeth on disco and hardcore country and still listen to it at times
If it stirs your soul or makes you ponder or reflect and gets your feet tappin its good music ,i like stuff with a positive vibe i guess thats why i never got into Death metal like Slayer and such ,just no good lyrical content

Hmmm....I'm kinda surprised that Amy's name came up. I was a BIG fan of hers many many years ago...in my religious years. I went to see her a few times in the very early 80s when she was married to Gary Chapman (a pretty good guitarist by the way), and Michael W Smith played piano for her. At that time she was doing shows in colleges and small venues. Her voice just makes me melt. Unfortunately, I just wasn't crazy about the style she chose when she crossed over to the pop world...and now country I guess.

My wife and I did choose one of her later songs for our wedding song in '95, so I guess that counts for something :)....

I used to be in a band with Chas 'n' Dave's drummer's son - also a drummer. Thing was he had appalling timing. So much so that if he went for a fill or a roll he'd always come back in completely off the beat.

The only good part was he was very consistent in how far out he'd be, so after a while I got used to it and would always come back in exactly with him.:D

I was in a band with Tony Burt too!!!!!!

Which band was you in?!?! I played with Tony in a band called freak-1-c, with Ian Husbands, Stephanie Lamereux and Ian Mauracio. Do you know any of these people?!

I have done many a gig with 'Bertie'. He still works for Mercedes as far as I know.

What a small world!

Guilty Pleasures

What an open ended subject since musical tastes evolve and bands come and go,

With that said and Luke will understand this I have always taken S**t for being a huge Toto fan, the solo on Rosanna is one of the top five greatest ever.
Also love Billy Joel and have been trying and I repeat trying to transpose some of his work to guitar.
Also a huge fan of Savatage and TSO! And I love to hear Vince Gill play!

My guilty pleasures extend in to Jon Anderson's very patchy new age leanings, Nightwish and even Enya! I should be wearing tie dye some days ....

And yes, he had terrible timing! He is famous for it! It was almost laughable! I have done many a gig with 'Bertie'. He still works for Mercedes as far as I know.

It was a band called Maid In England (female singer you see!), which was your basic pub-rock covers outfit, trawling around the pubs and clubs of Surrey and SW London in the early nineties.

I don't recall any of the other folk you've listed, all I remember was the bass player at the time was a very tall bloke from Guildford called Alan, and the singer was a lady called Maddy from Ottershaw who I am still gigging with occasionally (including next Sunday in Dorking funnily enough).

It was one of those typical band situations. He was already in the band when I joined so I had to kind of suss out the in-band relationships and politics situation before tentatively raising the subject of how c**p he was!

I think he left fairly soon and was replaced by a really nice Scottish guy who thankfully was able to keep time whilst flailing about on his kit!

Small world indeed!:D

Never been myself but I think Maddy's other half Drew Murphy (big guy, drummer), plays over that way quite a lot?

He played in Maid In England a few times as well.
 
Taking sh*t for toto

Hey, I have been taking **** for BEING in toto for 30 YEARS! hahaha No worries mate. I am used to it by now and I get the joke. Hell, I also have done ALOT of other stuff that non toto fans like, so thats cool, but hating toto is a rite of passgae, especially for pure metal heads and rock critics. Funny thing is they have never heard anything but the top 40 stuff we have done so, 30 million records later who gets the last laugh????

The thing IS, the people that give you sh*t about it would LOVE to have my job so.. f*ck them! I am quite sure that they are better than me or all of us for that matter and they tell EVERYONE they can at there Mailbox inc. job and still live with mom and dad ...at 45 years old! hahahaha

Linkin Park. :o

Even though I hadn't listened to them forever, I love the distortion guitar tone Brad Delson gets from his setup. I like them more for their rock songs then their rap songs, though. Actually, I was so bored the other day, I decided to play Meteora and I still remember all the lyrics! My main problem with them is that they take like, 4 years to write a 40 minute album, whereas Dream Theater, the best band ever, takes about a year (3 weeks for Train of Thought) before a new album/tour. (And of course, Dream Theater's albums are a billion times better, as well.
