I just opened a big legal envelope and in it was a check to cover our legal fees along with a letter of apology and a formal agreement from Rondo Music that they will never sell rip offs of our stuff again.

The SX Music Man ripoff is bye bye.

THANKS WONDERDOG

Why can't they (at TB) understand that it is a companies perogative to decide if they want their source of income copied and bastardised, or not. If EB were playing microsoft and trying to buy out all patents for complete control of everything bass/guitar/string, then yes there is a bigger picture ethical issue their. But they aren't, they are just protecting their product - fair enough in my book.

Good news regardless BP!

It sounds like a hackshop forum over there to me. Every other post made me want to retort, but I contained myself. I just don't think they understand intellectual property...

I would say that the median age there is a bit lower than it is here, and that makes it harder to explain the reality of modern manufacturing in the United States.

What many of them are thinking is, "Can I get a bass that looks like a Stingray for 125 dollars? Cool!" I should know better than to be drawn into such things!

Should have seen the thread where I was told that Ernie Ball Music Man was a giant, faceless corporation. That was almost too easy, really.

That is his sig!!!

And a nice one it is, too!

It was probably their inability to provide after sale customer service that made that check cheaper to write.

Its kind of how people feel about most laws. It is different when it happens to them. I read through the posts and there are "builders" that take issue with us protecting our assets. If and when they make a dent larger that a paint chip in this industry they will get to choose whether to ignore people stealing from them. It's easy to sit back and justify taking from someone else.....remember this is the entitlement era.

Do you think that Rondo would have written a check (that was modest) andposted an apology if they werent in the wrong?

respect!

Congrats!

It's sad that in the real world today, you have to spent time and effort on cases like this. I hope it didn't cost you too much.

Now go back and make those great quality basses. ;)
Can't wait to see the anniversary SR5.

If I read BP's post correctly, it only cost time and aggravation since Rondo had to pony up for legal fees. That BP is one smart cookie. :D

I will post the apology letter and some pics of the destroyed ripoff guitars when I figure out how. ;)

You know, that TalkBass thread just shows why it is important to stop these ripoff artists. The TalkBAss guys wanted to buy these SX things as an alternative to OLP and EBMM. OLP pays EBMM a license fee, so sales of SX copies just takes money out of EBMM's pocket any way you cut it. That's just wrong.

They should make their own designs and build their own reputation, not ride on the coatails of others.
