How it plays is more important than how it looks. You already said it plays like a dream. It ain't broke.

LOL David! I don't know if you remember Gregg/Frankensteinberger but I really miss the days when he was on ebay constantly. I pulled some awesome basses from the stream that flowed in and usually back out his door. It's better for him to be focusing on other things but I have to work harder now. ;)

Yep, picked up many from Gregg back in the day... seems like everything I get nowadays though is from the northwest corner up there or the Owl Farm ;)

here's what you need to do:
Get an aftermarket neck w/ skull inlays.
Get aftermarket skull nobs.
Skull straplocks and strap.
Cover the bass with bumper stickers.
Sharpie over all the gold hardware.
Get some DR Black Beauties on it.
Exchange the stock pup for a basslines.
Add a bartolini P-bass pickup.
And don't forget the BadAss2 Bridge.

then it will be GODLY and you will be the envy of every 13yearold!

I go through this sometimes. I think it's normal for a lot of musicians. I get bored with the way mine look from time to time. I had a black/black/rosewood Stingray that I got rid of...a perfectly fine instrument. (I miss it now!) I got a natural/black/maple Stingray to replace it. I have to admit that it seems a bit bland to me now that I have a honeyburst Stingray. I may end up swapping it for an SR5 at some point, but I haven't made up my mind to pull the trigger. It plays better than any other bass I've ever owned, too! Anyway, I agree with the folks above who said to just sell it on the forum or maybe even better, swap it for another used Sterling.

That is a beautiful bass, though!

For me, the three things I look for in order of importance are feel, then sound, then look - and I need at least two outta three to be happy...

Sounds like you got two - but that's you, not me...

If the look is really important to you/current look is bumming you then there's nothing to lose by moving into another Sterling - i.e. it's not likely to be "the one that got away" because the next one will have the same feel and sound with an "improved" look.

I wouldn't take a $400.00 hit though - as suggested, a swap on the forum or a private sale should get you to your ultimate Sterling with less out of pocket expense.

Good luck! :)

I would agree with trying to swap it for another Sterling. There doesn't seem to be anything in partic about this one that you can't countenance losing (apart from it being a LE) - but it's not any better really than any other Sterling.

Normally I'd say try swapping the guard out (that gave mine a whole new look and made me fall in love with it all over again) but your options are a bit limited. End of the day, you've got nothing to lose by trying to swap it for another. Have a look at the Colours sticky at the top of the page, see what you like, and then email Foggy for more pics :)

Whether you keep it or swap/flog it, you've still got a class bass that will stand you in good stead for years. Just make sure you're happy - and EBMM do enough options to make everyone happy :D I'm sure you'll see one that looks-wise really floats your boat and you can't live without!

I've got a ltd Sterling 06 with HH. I've had more compliments from the bling on this bass than any I've played the last 20 years. Get better lights if this monster doesn't show up on stage good. People tell me to "TURN IT DOWN!" when we're on break!

BTW..... keep it.

If you can't get peace regarding this bass then sell it on. But for goodness sake think more carefully before you buy the next one. All the best!
