The hardtail mafia is at it again !!! :p
Just kidding !

If you like a floyd trem ... get the guitar with one !
Sure it might sound and play different, but in a good way !

I've been using two EB SM since the mid 90s and I've completely stopped using the trem model. I have a tough time with the SM trem arm and just don't use trem at all. In the rare recording situations I need trem, it's usually only when doing something with the Gretsch 6120. The SM Trem seems like something to have if you need the ultimate Swiss army knife of pickup configurations and trem together in one monster.

go the non-trem Morse, its the best. you'll become better by forcing yourself to be more musical and not relying on the floyd.

How do you work that out?

I use a Floyd and i can play as "musical" as anyone. Just because a player uses a Floyd doesnt meant he's a shredder or cant play vibrato with his fingers, it also doesnt mean thy rely on the Floyd to get expression, i certainly dont.

There is so much crap talked about Floyd's/locking trems, they are a way of keeping a guitar in tune, some use them different to others.
Ok, so they may take a bit longer to set-up, but if its done properly then you get the benefits of having a very solid, great sounding trem system.

Ibanez- relax my friend. You yourself said "Trem, its the only way to go mate" which is also just an opinion.

The Floyd is just a tool, it's for some and not all. (You'll note that it's not available on most other MMs.) I don't think any of us can convince another of what they really need on a guitar- we each need need to decide what features are important to us.

And hey, if you buy a guitar w/o a Floyd and want one later (or vice-versa) you can just sell it and get a replacement.

But i dont dont say that people who dont use trems cant express themselves, there is a huge difference between the two opinions made.
If you dont the locking trem and dont use it, fine, but dont knock players who use it and say they arent as "musical".
Its a generalisation that is stupid, i can appreciate players who dont use trems, take Clapton or Knoplfer, they are two of the best players in the world. The same as i class Vai and Satriani as two of the best.

And what do define as "mis-use"? Divebobmbs and extreme use of harmonics are just as musical and effective in songs as anything else.
The locking trem is a tool, a way of keeping the tuning at a constant. It doesnt in any way subtract from the guitar or the player.

All joking aside, I like the tone from non-trem guitars much more than trem equipped guitars. They sound more "solid" and "punchy" to me. I'm a hardtail guy myself, but not because "you can't use a Floyd and be musical." (That's just a stupid statement, period.) But the tone really is different.

well said, I like the sound of the non trem models I own. Also the fact that changing strings is a breeze. Plus the floyd guy's bite so easily when this subject comes up each year. The other annual debate is pc v mac ;)

Well, I've never had neon spandex or a poodle perm.. but I do have a history with trems.

I love 'em. I mostly use them to warble chords here and there while playing clean. I don't think it makes my playing any less musical.. in fact I'm a stickler for good melody and good phrasing. But I've seen trems misused, too... but whatever floats your boat!

Some people can abuse a trem with awesome results. Orangechannel did a tune some time ago where he wanked heavily with the whammy.. and it was good! :)

P.S. I did own parachute pants back in the day...

Steve i love using my balls that have trems, i use them the same as you- the odd chord warble, and maybe a divebomb here and there. i'm certainly not against trems, they are great. Floyds though are not for me, i have no desire to pull up in pitch into the stratosphere. though i do have mine set for just a little raise in pitch.
