How great sterlings were!! After owning a stingray it was the only bass to me that had personality. So I was planning on getting another one. BUT Today a trip to guitar center changed that.. I played a SR5 but it wasn't for me, SR4 sounded fimilar since I have owned one. Played a Double HH stingray.. It just wasn't for me either.. I saw a sterling and was like, ehh it can't be that bad it IS made by ernieball.. Picked it up.. AOHH. Its got so much more personality than the stingray.. I mean it made the stingray sound too steril like a p bass. I don't like the looks of sterlings, weird shape pickgaurd, switch, no metal surrounding the controls, the neck is small. But the tone makes it soo worth it. And they have it in my favorite color!! Red/Pearloid!! I have a feeling I might be a new sterling owner in the next week or so..

"Check out the HH Sterling, it's my fave EB right now."

I've never tried a HH Sterling, but I've owned 2 of your others that were outstanding (the black H is now strung w/ TI flats), so I will happily bow to your infinite wisdom in all things "Sterling" and put one on my list..... (lemme know when you decide to flip yours :D )

The Sterling has been getting a lot of love on the forum for a while now, with the illustrious phatdukk as its most ardent supporter. I know Brad loves 'em, too.

In spite of the weird name, I'm learning to love mine, too. I almost offed it a time or two but it's still here, long after everyone thought it would be gone. Last week, I played it THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW.

Hardly anything gets played three nights in a row here.

The pickguard is not quite as oval as that of the SR4, but it's close.

I love the tone because its soo growly its almost impossible to make it not growl. To me I always loved the stingray tone but to me the sterling makes the stingray sound steril.

Okay, now I like me some Sterling growl (and I've heard it from both the instrument and the person - I like it better from the instrument), but I can't say I agree with your opinion about the SR sounding sterile.

I think you need to try a 30th Anniversary Stingray, that's what I think.

Then buy a Sterling and a Stingray and you're covered....until you get the Bongo sickness.

i wouldnt call a stingray serile... but, ya, i know what you mean - the sterling is one mean bass. however, you can get it to chill out... especially the 2 PUPs. there's some seriously refined tones in the 2 PUPers

well, youve got that whole "lord bongo" thing going for ya. i do what i can and i evangelize that which i love.

to be honest tho, i must say the HH ray did at one point give my sterling lusta run for its money. but in the end, yup, im a sterling guy.

slap some stainless steel super slinkys on it (either H, HS or HH) and the sterling is tone heaven for me

You played every note on the neck didn't ya? :D

Didn't sound as clanky as I figured it would. I liked that. Great sound Arin.
