That thing could also fall thru your floor!! (if your room is on the 2nd floor)

800lbs?!

Holy crap! Looks like a wise investment, though. I dream of one day having a fireproof, thiefproof, climate-controlled vault-like room in my house for all of my expensive stuff. But that'll wait until I can actually afford a big enough house. (Okay, so it will never happen! :( )

Hey Rob, with the humidification feature,
you could easily fit a couple boxes
of Cubans in there too!

Personally I'd like the bass vault that has the two BD LE SR5's. And the Dargie. And the Buttercream. And the 30th. I think it's in SLO right now - I'm just waiting for it to hit eBay.

You could go down to your local gun shop and buy a safe there. You can buy fireproof ones and they are tall enough to hold basses. Plus they usually deliver for free.

Although insurance helps, it cannot replace
certain instruments. $1k seems reasonable
for a vault to help ensure the safety of my stuff.

I have not found anything besides this thing . .
(Humidification/Dehumidification too if desired)

eBay: Safes for Guitars, Guitar Safe, Gibson, Guitar Safes (item 110020692319 end time Feb-08-07 08:06:42 PST)

Is there anything else out there?

I'd be devastated if I lost my stuff to theft or fire.

Great idea but I think I'll hold out for the same safe that Edward Norton had in the movie "The Italian Job"! Of course it would need a giant ERNIE BALL logo on it instead! Only Charlize Theron would be allowed to break in as well. My safe, my rules.

What's wrong with keeping the expensive guitars in the closet covered in clothes and other crap?

Cool idea in any case. Must be a b1tch to move though.

Not trying to hijack, but raises and interesting point. I'm sick and tired of my oldest son, walking down to my unfinished basement/music room sanctuary and getting out my older Tele an Les Paul and leaving them lie around, out of the cases, and in one instance, he left the Tele locked up in the teacher's office at school!

I'd really like to be able to lock my basses and guitars up in a secure closet and the first thing that came to mind was a gun closet or cabinet. Has anyone gone this route?

Not that I know enough about basses and what not to know what a Tele is, but it sounds expensive enough for me to say this...

...I think I'd kill him! Then bury him in the basement so I could put the vault on top of him!!!

Nah, jk. I wouldn't be that drastic...but i sure would put a big knot on his head, a big red mark on his butt, or...better yet...BOTH!

OK, Female, a Tele is a Guitar, a Fender Telecaster , not a bass, lol

also, a Les Paul is a guitar, made by Gibson

But Ernie Ball MusicMan makes FAR superior guitars and basses than the aforementioned companies

One of my friends from the union local just bought a gun safe from Gander Mountain. I was with him when he purchased it and it will fit bass guitars with headroom to spare. I'm not really sure, but I think it was a Remington gun safe. It does have 3 drawers in it on the side, for handguns and ammo, but their deep and tall so there's lots of room for old scotch and cuban smokie treats. The safe appears like it will hold about 9 or 10 basses. May be a tax refund gift for myself.
