Well BettyJ, I don't know about what the Elks do.. but I've spent an evening or two without the TV.

I'm a past presiding officer in three fraternal organizations (two of which I presided over more than once). I'm currently the presiding officer of a fourth fraternal organization. I'm also a newly elected trustee for one of the aforementioned organizations. Lastly, I'm currently appointed to a Grand office for a fraternal organization.

I also belong to a local German club, where I go for lunch about once a week.

Wow! You're active in these things, Steve! So, how do we join? Do we get jumped in like a gang? :D

Maybe if they turn on MTV and turn off Archie Bunker reruns on the bar TV, more young bucks might be more inclined to hang out there. But then that would run out the old timers. I used to humor my WW2 Vet father-in-law, playing darts for shots and beers at his VFW chapter, but it wasn't a place I'd hang in otherwise. I've played a fair share of VFW and Elks club gigs... yeehaw! I'll agree though that, in all, a great bunch of folks.

I had to stop going to the American Legion and the VFW..........

The beer was cheap. And you can't beat the old timers for stories......

But it felt like I was the youngest person there by like 100 years!

Creepy! And the wife didn't like the grandfather's flirting with her....

Beth,

Yes I am! Unfortunately, none of the groups I belong to involve alcohol, except for the German club! :D

You've got to know the secret handshake for most of 'em.... ;)

But I could get you into that German club in a heartbeat.. a girl of good Germanic stock like you.. :) They would probably solicit you to join the women's chorus (damenchor) though! They have their sights on my wife.. and she's not even German!

If you ever end up in Pittsburgh on business or whatever, I'd be happy to take you to lunch there! They have a buffet of German food on Wed and Thursday, and on Friday you can order from the menu. Special bonus.. they have an accordian player on the 1st friday of each month during lunch!
