I saw that too. It must be Trans Green cause as far as i know, the DD's are the only basses that came out in MOG. This guy must be handy at photoshop because those look like the exact pictures of the DD's they have up on musiciansfriend, minus the inlays and matching headstock. Just look closely at that angled shot and you'll notice the inlays arent even there.

If it is what I think it is, then its definitely not a 2007 model...

I don't know... it's suspiciously cheap and in a color that none of us sales people can remember if we did a short "tester" run of or not. It certainly is not a 2007 model. Buyer beware. I'd get the serial number checked out before bidding.

well...the seller responded to my questions.....beth was right.....FISHY!!!

here is what he sent me
"It is more like a dargie.
It is a custom metallic olive green
The clear coat alone is $300 per ounce.
This paint job makes Dargie look cheap."

so it is a custom paint job, trying to pass as a dargie or close to it....doesnt even mention a refin in his description

He sent me a similar answer.

I specifically asked for the serial number....

Here's the reply:

Item: 2007 Music Man Stingray Bass Mint Condition. No Reserve (250097310869)
This message was sent while the listing was active.
4259novak is the seller.

It is an 2007 with a custom paint job.
It's metalic Olive Green that Makes the Dargie look like a toy.
The clear coat alone is $300 per ounce.

What a loser......

We never made one for '03 NAMM. Compensated nut, black pg, and looks exactly like a factory finish. I would guess some photoshop, as some people don't want the inlays. Anyone get a serial number?

No serial number.... I did send a message to the winning bidder referring him to this thread. I hope he reads it before he send the $$......

E-bay buyer

Hi

I just won the suspect green Stingray off E-bay. I received your warning after I paid. That will teach me to be prompt. The seller has 100% positive feedback, so I wasn't worried.

After reading the posts, I'm worried about the quality of the bass. If it is just a custom paint job, does that affect the value in a negative way? Is it possibly a fake body with a ernie ball neck? And if so, how do I tell when I receive it?

I knew it wasn't a Dargie, but was unaware that that color wasn't offered on any other model of Stingray.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Thanks,

If you paid by Paypal, you can always put a dispute in with them since he never disclosed that it was an aftermarket paintjob (more likely than aftermarket body). If you tie up his Paypal account, he WILL be forced to deal with you. Get the serial number and post it here. EB/MM can tell you what color the bass should be, and when it was made.

Essentially, what the guy has done is committed fraud.

Boilerman,

Welcome to the fold, my friend. I'm an old Seattle man myself! I will try to answer some of your questions. A custom paint job will effect the value, how much, I can't say. It is possible that it's a fake body, or neck, or even a complete photoshop creation. Then again, it may be real. However, he certainly wasn't going to give anyone the serial number. But MOG was ONLY on the Dargies. Period. I only hope you actually receive it. Just a quick rule of thumb, always get that serial number. If they won't give it up. Then pass. Keep your fingers crossed.

Sorry you found us this way, but you have fallen in with a good crowd.
