Not only the best Stingray ever made.. but for me, the best BASS ever made!
Nothing even touches it IMHO.
Brad sold me a beaut which is worshipped and played wherever and whenever possible.

I sure love my 30th. It's going to its first gig tonight. But I have a question. Is the pickup and preamp exactly the same as off-the-shelf Stingrays, or have those also been specially enhanced in some way?

I pulled mine out the other day. it has the same chip (TL062) as the other 3EQ Rays. All the pots are the same values but their physical size are smaller. My guess is that the pre-amp is probably the same but that the Mahogany wood and string-through-body bridge has something to do with it. I also put on a heavier guage of EB strings.

I'm going to ask Dudley about the pre-amp

P.S. I pulled out the pickup also but did no resistance or impediance measurements. It looks the same so my guess is that it is the same (not like the dual pickup Rays).

Snap!

Mine is getting its' first gig experience tonight. I'll be playing it on a couple of 70s/80s funk tunes.

The rest of the set belongs to my Bongos though.

How much more convincing do you need than all that has been said here. If I could only keep one bass out of my stable I know which one it would be without a second thought.

It is a crappy picture I know

I hope your next post here has some better pics of it. Pics of YOUR new bass that is:cool:   .

My 30th has become my favorite bass. I knew I'd like it, but I've never really bonded with a Stingray before so I didn't expect to like it THIS much. Pics don't do justice to the grain on the mahogany body or the sick birdseye on the neck or the beauty of the trans red finish. Then, of course, you plug it in and it's all over.

I saw one on the wall at a GC in Saginaw, Michigan a few weeks ago, and I know it's been there for close to a year because I played it the last time I was in Saginaw, right when they came out. The only reason I can imagine it's still there is because it's way up high on the wall and you'd need help to take it down. If GC (or anybody else) is blowing these out, buy one while you have the chance.

The 30th is my #1 bass now. Nothing else comes close to the sound, and the workmanship is awesome. I didn't get it at all until I played one.

There are some pretty good deals on these basses right now.

Help !!!!

Hi guys,:)
I'm new to the forum but not new to bass playing.
I need a little bit of help and advice. I've used Stingrays in the past, too many years ago to admit to and I'm going back to one. I have the chance to buy a Stingray 4 30th anni, new. Can you guys tell me what the difference, in your opinions, in tone is, i.e. is the SR4 30th anni more mellow and rounded than a standard SR4 with 1H or does it have more bite and attack. What difference do the mahogany and thru-body strings make? The reason I'm asking is I can't try the 2 basses side-by-side in the same shop, and can't carry the sound in my head between the 2 shops!
Afterall I'm a female bass player!!!!!!:)
Thanks, Anelka.

Welcome to the Forum Anelka.

You can get both of those tonal variations out of the 30th Anni...plus a lot of in between. Mahogany is a tad heavier than the regular body wood which no doubt adds to the tonal range of the Bass. Some believe the string-through-body bridges give an instrument more sustain. Whether that's true or not, the 30th Anni has plenty of that too :)

HI Welcome...You will hopefully find this a fun place. We have some great female bassists here that love to gang up on us old goats.

First off is weight an issue? If so then you porbably steer towards the normal one and shop for the lightest one you want. I also think that before you make a decision you should check out the Sterling (Ok so Idesigned it) This is not a sexist comment cause a I am a big guy but I love the wiehgt and the slightly J style neck and the tonal possibilities are impressive,

The mahogany wood definitely gives it a different sound, it really accentuates the low-mids alot more, so I would say it does sound more tame and rounded, and a little deeper...that's what I really love about it.
Of course you can turn up the treble and mid knobs for more bite if you need it.
BP is right, they tend to be a heavier version from the standard ones. Mine weighs 9.6 lbs so it seems to be the same (I got to cherry-pick mine out), but I have run across heavier ones. I definitely recommend trying it out strapped on to see if weight would be an issue.

No, this was at Cosmo in Richmond Hill.

Anyways, I went back and tried it again and it sucked so I didn't buy it.;) :D

Just kidding!

I am going to buy a 30th, but I really need a 5er for the type of tunes I am playing. My wife pointed out that my SUB4 and Fender Geddy haven't been out of the cases in ages and that I only seem to play my Bongo5 lately.

If anone out there knows of a new 30th 5 sitting on a shelf somewhere in Canada, please let me know.....
