I think this dark growl comes from a recti, it would just be typical.

i would say it´s more like the roadking. the recto has an more aggressiv sound with less growl in it.
it´s more the sound in know from my roadster as from my recto.
or it´s the preamp of the IIC+ through the recto poweramp. like the setup similar to that one he use during "the score".

Hm, rectifier....good point, asking myself if I should get one!?
maybe look out for a roadster. ;)

is your back sore when you get up...harder time reading the small print....hair growing out your ears.....grey creeping in....find yourself replaing your cd s on Itunes with only old stuff..Do you forget if you locked the door? TUrned off the coffee machine?

Dont worry its not age.....

You're right, it's not old age - I've got all of the above except for the reading problems and forgetting about the coffee machine

Amp guessers...It's a Mark IV. The G3 rig = new live rig apparently. Also when recording he used the POWER section of the Mark IIC+. It was Mark IV and sometimes it's pre split off into a Mark IIC+ for different sounds. There's also a Lonestar on the some solos.
I'll bet this record boosts Mark IV sales. Cud, you can get some cranky, heavy tones out of those. In fact, I've always been more partial to the Mark because it's versatility far outweighs the ol' Rectifiers. It's just got something different under the hood. And because you can find them on the used tip between $900 and $1100...woo.

PLASCHKES: excellent work, man !

I really dig the new DT stuff and can't wait 'til the album comes out in a few days. Nevermind the changes the band has gone through - every album sort of was exploring some more new territory - at least to my ears. Love it all...

You don't wanna go there... :)

I've actually got about half of the song all written down this moment, now it's just time to sit down and practice on it... The Interlude is crazy as hell.

Wow, it's too bad I can only count to 6 on one hand, Portnoy counts to 7 a few times.

I'll take a Mark IV over a Rectifier ANY DAY!

And a pre-500 2 channel Dual Recto + a Lonestar over a Road King.

But maybe it's just me :p

Heavier?????? hehe, l guess l must be getting older, i used to dig alot of heavy music, but not so much now, the same with long guitar solos, give me a nice melodic solo over a million notes a second.

Scott.

It's just the mood I'm these days. Much of the time, DT seems to do what I "need" to hear them do with each release. I'm also a big fan of the nice melodic solo too. The Rosanna solo was brought up. I'm a big fan of that too. I love SRV's Lenny and Riviera Paradise. I'm also a fan of no solo. Case in point, I'm a Linkin Park fan. I like a lot of different things. Planning to see a local jazz singer, Jesse Palter, tonight. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=15761310 I'm planning to see pianist Yerfim Bronfman performing the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra next week--as long as it's affordable. I just need DT to get heavier with this release. I think I'm going to get a good amount of that. So, I'm happy.

Good stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if Mark IV sales jump as well. It's a sweet amp but I could never get anything out of R2.
