But what a great song it is! That John Prime album was one of my first intorductions to music as a kid. I played the crap out of it! This post made me laugh !

it was kind of lackluster from what I can recall, but afterwards was quite fun...

the evenings in austin on the weekend, 6th st.....

NAMM shows don't live on Texas. They live on Anaheim. They've been trying to kill the summer show off for as long as I've been going (20+ years now). And although it pains me, I'll agree that Austin was a weak show last year.

I'm sure BP will agree. If you've ever seen the winter show, nothing in the summer has ever compared.

I've only been to one of each, and the winter show kicked the summer session. That being said, I'll still be at summer session this year...

Sorry, I guess what I was trying to ask was this:
I know Summer NAMM (no matter where it was held) has not been a huge hit. I just meant that I know from last year that a lot of manufacturers said that they will definitely NOT attend Summer NAMM in 2007 if it was being held in Austin. I was just wondering why that is. A genuine curiosity for why the Indianapolis shows were considered better than the Austin show and how to make improvements because I'd love for it to find a long term home here. I enjoy having the industry guys wandering around town. It makes for great late evening bar talk.

I can believe that, although Nashville didn't seem that busy. Of course hanging out and doing business in the aisles is very different from the kind of show you put on.

I'll be in Austin anyway, so to the show I'll be. Hopefully the man with no eyebrows will come down as well.

Indy was worse than Austin and there was a boatload of population within driving distance.

It was sad really. I live in Indy and I thought it was lame. Really did not show the true capabilities of a NAMM show.

OK. So it sounds lke NAMM just doesn't do so well running their summer shows, no matter what city it's in.
In any event, I was looking forward to stoping by the EBMM booth this year as last years was a highlight of the show for me. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to make it out to Anaheim.

A lot of the smaller companies only have the money to do one show a year. There's also the announcement angle. Depending on your product cycle, if you announce something new at the Winter NAMM, do you have anything new to announce in the summer.

I think the dive in some of the school music programs has hurt as well. I was interviewed by NAMM in January as part of their oral history project. Before the interview I was talking with their historian about the history of the shows. I got the impression that the summer show was really targeted at the back to school ordering cycle. Of course if there are few new products and your sales reps are talking to your dealers all the time, it's no surprise the show will be light in attendance.
