Sil vs SS vs Luke

Ok guys in my never ending search for what my first ball should be I have a question. What the diff between a Sil and SS? Is it just pickups and 2 frets? Also how do they stack against a Luke. I am not really looking for which you all think is "better" as much as I am looking to find out their differences (other than the v shape neck on the Luke of course).

The Silhouette would make a GREAT first ball... it's a room full of guitars in one, but better :D

Silo has HSH pickup configuration. Silo Spec has SSS or HSS. Bodies are a little different so that the guitars still balance nicely. I believe that the HSH configuration obviates the need for the Silent Circuit which is featured on the Silo Spec. I think the Luke's piezo (if ordered) has a switch to control it/blend/turn it off/etc. The Silo and SS do not have this. They just have a blend knob.

Luke trem is set up to float a little. That is not true of the piezo version, which is set up with the bridge flat against the body. The Silo and Silo Spec are set up without floating.

D if I am going to buy 3 I'll do a Luke with Piezo and matching hdstk, a BFR JP7 and either an AL or SS. If you can pay my down payment to Pete for these when you go to put down yours on the BFR you'd make me a happy man :D

Thanks for this! I was wondering why I was finding stores claiming to be selling Sils with Piezo yet their pics never showed that three way toggle that the Luke and JP have. I am not sure if I really dig not having that toggle. To those of you that have a Sil or SS with a Piezo how do you all like just having that blend knob?

I have never tried out a Silhouette myself. However, I have had another guitar with the HSH configuration and I felt that it the pickups were rather crammed together. Well, I didn't really love that other guitar... I traded it for a SUB1 :)

As far as a Silo Spec vs a Luke, I think the pickups are the biggest difference obviously. I prefer the Silo Spec, but the Luke sounds great too.

go for the silo special - you can´t go wrong with that guitar!

personally i would prefer the luke... but the luke is a "special" guitar (v-shape, emg´s, floating trem,...) - you should try one before you order a luke. the luke is a versatile beast and gives you everything you need - when you feel comfortable with that guitar.

Hmm, that is interesting did not know that....I know you can always adjust the trem but would you say for floating the Luke is better.... and is it better than an ASS? Sorry it is a little OT but im just thinking about my next Ball.

I don't think it's better or worse. It's just how Luke prefers it. Personally, I'd probably set it up to more like a Silo Spec. Or...maybe, I'd keep it floating just to have something different from my Silo Spec. I don't know.

Better than an ASS? Well, the only person who can answer that question is you. It really should be a question of what is better for you. They're both great guitars. For me, I'd like an ASS instead unless a BFR Luke blows me away first, but that's just me. The Luke has a very compressed sound, I think. I prefer something that sounds a little more airy. So, I'm more likely to choose guitars with passive pickups.
