i want to buy one of the two,i have played both several times through several amps, the bongo has a powerful punch and a bass end so clean and deep it makes me want to cry, but when i slap, it almost sounds as bright as the stingray 5 HH but not quite, it's a little woody sounding, but when i play the stingray 5 HH it gets a wonderful punch and high end and the low end is not bad, but its not as deep and clean as the bongo, i want a jack of all trades type of bass, and earnie ball basses i feel are the closest thing to that but i can't make up my mind on which to by, i play Rock, pop, and funk slap, has anyone here felt like this about the two basses, i can only buy one at this time, what are your opinions?

i played an hs once and it sounded thuddy, but its hard to know because at guitar center people play the crap out of them and the batteries and strings are old most of the time, so i don't know how it would sound brand new, i am never shure of the normal good sound of an instrument, so how does an hs sound? is it good? what are the advantages? or differences?

Bongo is my vote (to no one's surprise.) The EQ makes my 4HH suitable for any gig I'll ever do.

I'm not going to be any help.

The Bongo 5 HH has been my workhorse for three years, but it has some serious competition. But it's very versatile (not that I need much versatility), can do modern and old school and plays like a dream.

My current fave is a Stingray 5....but it's a single H, the 20th Anniversary model. Nothing else I have or have ever had sounds like this thing.

I have eight or ten Music Man basses, but if I had to give all but one of them up, the 20th SR5 is the one I'd keep.

(Ask me again in a month and I might come up with a different answer.)

Anyway, it's really hard to go wrong with those two basses.

ya i am the same way, this week i love the stingray 5 HH, but last week i loved the bongo 5 HH, but i just saw the 20th anniversery stingray and drooled, especially because of the mahagony block, this bass sounds like it will give all of what i need in tone, a good deep bass because of the mahogany, and great high end too, plus the alnico magnets, now if i could just come up with the money it costs, oh well i can dream, normal stingrays 5 HH's are definatley cheaper.

Yep, you're right, a regular SR5 is less expensive, but I have never owned a SR5 that sounded like this thing.

Seriously. And I've had some GREAT SR5s, to be sure.

Alnico magnets, 'hog tone block, souped-up preamp, plus it's just sexy to look at - these won't be around much longer and a lot of people are going to be kicking themselves in the ass for not snapping one up.

But hey, I get the money thing. (To say the least.) I was fortunate to have the one I have.

Anyway, the forum's a great place to get some input. Hope it works out for you.

Look, that's not really Sterling. It's a guy named Ed who Sterling hired to be "Big Poppa" on the forum.

Sterling lives in a castle in France and wears a crown and likes to bellow, "Make it so!" and eats caviar for breakfast and has mink underwear and hasn't been seen in public for decades.

I think his fingernails are really long, too.

Okay, yeah, but look - buy something or else I'm in trouble for the above information.

HE KNOWS WHERE I LIVE.

Shhhh.
