Wow, you two wanna knock that off? j/k -

your StingRay 5 was completed on 3/17/94. The finish is Sunburst, now known as Honeyburst, though the finishes are different now. Nice! Have you had it since it was new?

Dan

Nah not since new - I bought it from a mate of mine here in Melbourne. He parted with it under duress he he. Im not sure if he bought it new of if he bought it second hand...

Thanks for the D.O.B!! I'll post a few pics of it... actually it features on my myspace sites!
www.myspace.com/schmartarse (Bassnerd personal site - meaningless but fun)

New arrival! Need a born on date

Hello! New Sterling HH arrived thanks to the friendly folks at FEDEX and The Perfect Bass (great store!) - need a birthdate - F15628.

Thanks!

Ernest

BTW, this is my first Sterling - what a player! I still love Stingrays (I've owned a few), but thought I'd give a Sterling a whirl this time.

Can you tell when it was finished? I just love it and want to know when it was born. Thanks a lot.

theosd, welcome! Your StingRay 5 was completed on 11/08/02 and originally sent to our friends at Parkway Music in Clifton Park (Albany), New York. The official color name is Carbon Blue Pearl, the fretboard is rosewood with a matching headstock, and the pickguard is Abalone.

Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

Pre-EB's were Ash bodies with Maple necks. Some bodies used Basswood from 1980 but that was the 4 bolted neck Basses. The grain on your Bass would also tend to confirm Ash.

Serial records don't exist for the Pre-EB Basses so, in the absence of removing the neck from the body (both dated), the only thing to do is compare yours with other serials. B015678 indicates late 1979 or early 1980 (probably the former).

BTW...great looking Bass
