For anybody who owns or has spent some time with both the production Luke and the BFR Luke, how do the tones compare?

I haven't bought a BFR, because I didn't feel like the difference in tone would be worth the additional money over the Luke I already own(plus, I'm sure I'll want a BFR AL, or at least a couple more production EBMMs).

But, the construction of the BFR Luke is basically that of the 20th Silo (maple on alder with the MTB), and my 20th has the best tone of any guitar I've ever played. I'm now thinking, man, if the BFR Luke hits you square in the jaw like the 20th, then I'm in the market for one.

Any inputs would be appreciated, especially since I don't have ready access to a BFR Luke I can play for a good amount of time.

I have another (possibly stupid) question for the EBMM team: With the BFRs, was the primary goal to simply to use nicer materials, or was the focus of the effort to make a guitar that sounds different, and arguably better, plus a little fancier-looking? The 20th Silo is pure magic, but it also departed more from the production Silos than the JP and the Luke do (different pickups, for example). It's also less striking than the true BFRs. Was the philosophy the same behind the 20th and the BFRs?

Thanks,
GH

i cant compare the tones since i dont own a BFR Luke (yet - im currently figuring out how to get one). but anyways... i have seen and heard BP talk about why they made the BFR line. This is off memory so i may be a bit off traget but there were a couple points BPs hit regarding these:

1) give the average joe an opportunity to buy a guitar that would previously only be available to artists and friends/family

2) to let the engineers roll with some of their new ideas

Theres a video on GC's site where BP addresses that question breifly. check out the video at: Events - Guitar Center (scroll downa bit)

Its sort of like the 20th with hotter pups, if you play the 2 next to each other youll hear the difference - I played one the other day and I dug it alot, Im waiting for the BFR silo special -

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Bump...has anybody out there spent time with both the production and BFR Lukes? I'm trying to justify owning both :)

Thanks,
Hack

I found a bit more sustain and midchunk on the BFR Luke. Both of which I enjoyed. In the half-hour or so that I got to beat on kbaim's guitar (he told me to), I came up with the backbones for 2 songs I'm writing with my band. Inspiration the moment I plugged it in.

but, seriously, what u eyeing?

Does he still got that Walnut one. what a top...

And there you have it - there are a couple of people interested in that one, the top is out of this world sucky.

I also like the walnut one....how much are those going for (rough estimate)?

off topic....on the koa axis bfr I'm getting, it has a mahogany tone block....I'm assuming that it has a chunk of mahogany in the body, but could anyone be more specific on the details? oh, by the way, I'm getting the one with the trem, I like the natural finish rather than the burst that the hardtails have....they're all nice, it's just a personal preference.

I'm just a window shopper for now... I just bought a new amplifier head and 2x12 cab... plus I have the 2007 LE Axis on order. I'm geared out for the year. But who knows what 2008 will bring? a BFR or a '08 LE :D
