The D-Sonic on my JP was installed with the blade closest to the bridge (it's Pre D-Sonic and the previous owner had it installed that way), and I finally got motivated to turn it around to the standard orientation...... nice quick job I thought.
Nope.
There's not enough PUP lead for me to turn it around, as it was trimmed to length for the blade-to-bridge installation. (D'oh !)
So my question is :
Is it possible to install a totally new PUP lead, rather than lengthening the existing one with additional lead (therefore avoiding joins) ?
I've got no problems with soldering and installation - I've switched a fair few pickups before, but I've never taken one apart.
What happens inside where the lead enters the base/mounting plate ?
Can I just take the baseplate off and install a totally new lead ?
(I figure it's going to resin / wax filled behind there, so I thought I'd ask rather than fly into taking the baseplate off)
Is it worth the trouble, or should I just extend the existing lead ?
Thanks in advance.
