candidx have you played either? Maybe you should stroll up to a kiosk and watch a kid with an open mind and it just may sway you...it doesnt reward greed it rewards playing your part perfectly.....

All of that is cliche....it doesnt replace the guitar...nobody has taken away anything..someone has created a fun game around a guitar shaped object that simulates sucess in playing music....ITs called guitar hero...guitar.....guitar guitar.....

panties are getting bunched and arguments regarding musical purity and stiff backs and all it is is a game....a game that just might bring the curious to the guitar.....

Ask Marty what he thinks as the biggest supplier of guitars in the world.....

Got ours for Christmas for the Wii...

12½-year-old and 9-year-old (and me) having a blast.

Beyond the fun factor, my kids are running off to add new songs to their iPods that they otherwise may have not been exposed to.

It they're gonna play video games - and they are - better they play one that involves and promotes music - and guitar.

Now who to talk to about "Bass Guitar Hero?"

Seems like you're taking my comments way more seriously than they were intended. No bunched panties or stiff backs here, just a little sardonic humor with a touch of truth.

We know that won't sell well ;)

:p:p:p:p:p

Balderdash!

We just broke down and boght the first gaming system (X-Box) for our kids this Christmas. I've been having more fun watching the kids play! (.....haven't tried it myself, yet...)

I have to agree w/ BP - the game generates interest in the real deal. A friend of my 16 y.o. son's who can't do that much physical stuff due to heart problems and now spine surgery, just loves this game. He and my son can play together on line, and they trade back and forth on bass and guitar. He now knows more about different real guitars and basses than I do at this point - we talk gear! pretty cool, if you ask me! I think I see Rock Band in our near future - I want to see if my eldest daughter can keep a beat!!:D

A friend of mine nicknamed this game "Heroine Hero" coz it's so addictive. He and his wife play it every chance they get! I used to not like the game when I first played it coz it was frustrating. GIVE ME A REAL GUITAR AND I'LL NAIL THAT SONG! Now that I'm used to it and can actually hit most notes (except the hard solos), it's a pretty cool game.

My brother wants to learn to play guitar now and he used to be a drummer...

I think the game is harder than playing guitar itself. I think it's fun. At least, it's not one of those games where the player takes a character and steals, kills, etc. It's about music, which is far more positive.

I don't have the game for a few reasons. Firstly, I'd get addicted to it and to other games. Secondly, I suck at both this game and most other games. Lastly, there's no GH EBMM guitar.

Seriously, if there were a GH EBMM guitar, I'd buy it. :D I'd love a GH JP6, Silo Spec, AL, or Luke! :D

I played it the other day in the store... cranked up some 'Even Flow'... I even threw in some whammy action, even though it wasn't called for on the particular setting *grin*

It was a blast. I'd get it for the Wii, but I'm having too much fun with the JP6 and don't need another distraction at this point

Candidx the only question or comments directed at you we if you had played it. The other stuff was in response to the rest of the threads.....

Nope, can't says I have. To me it's just another game. Think I said that already? I have no special interest associated with it. Not saying it's not cool or fun or even educational and motivational for some, and of course profitable. I'm sure my special interest hobbies would bore most here to tears. lol ..different strokes, s'all good.

my son whips my butt at this game - he had to show the old man how to play.
It's fun but I got other things to do and I'm behind in practice.

I thought it was kinda cool when I started i got an EB endorsement and thought wow "they had these endorsements out like candies at Halloween".

It's great way to market a product and the art as well.

I hope that kids will pick up a guitar and learn how to play after trying this game.

BTW Can I get my endorsement back ?
promise I wont walk away this time....

By a sheer fluke, I went to Apple's software section on their site to look for some software I was needing to install, and saw GHIII there. After doing some research, I discovered that you can order it from Apple, with software and guitar, and it hooks up to your computer! So, I don't need an XBox360 after all! I wasn't going to buy one till I got a killer giant HDTV, but not having GH was killing me! Now I can have the game for like $80!

Going to a NYE party tonight, and they'll have GHIII there, and very few kids to play it! Which means I'll be hogging it all night. It's really fun. Mind you, you need not know anything about guitar to play it. It's all about timing.

The first time I played it, I was really good at it. But I was thrown by how little the songs really match up w/ the "rhythm" of the guitar licks. On easy mode, it's kind of a cross between the bass, kick, and guitar parts. So, I tried it on a harder level, and took a piss all over the place. I was horrid. The linear way of the guitar keys really threw me. I'm gonna have to practice at it. Can't wait though.

Did you happen to see one of the recent Southpark episodes about GH? It was hilarious! Sorry if it's been covered here already. But dang it was funny. Kinda scary though. Much like the music industry is now... any one can be a guitar hero with the right software... and know very little about music! Sad really.

Happy New Year everyone! Bring on the 2008 LE's!

I noticed this too - I told my son I'd be a lot better at the game with the sound off because of the "anticipation factor" with the sound track.

I haven't played all that much, perhaps 4-6 songs. The only song that I felt real comfortable with was "Rock and Roll All Night" - dead-on!

Ha! To reinforce some of the earlier commentary re: the benefits of the game to music exposure, my son told me just the other day "Dad - you gotta get me a Dragonforce CD!"...

I thought you were serious in this post, and were talking about real life.

Lol :D

Not everyone was meant to play Guitar Hero.
