So I was wondering and correct me if im wrong, but up until recently musica man basses only came with the single humbucker at bridge position... then the single h at the neck was offered too... Are there any plans to make basses with j j or single h pickups, or anyother format pickups for that matter (soapbar, p, etc.) which does not include a humbucker or a humbucker model with a p pickup or something else different... The more merrier i guess... but then again maybe humbuckers are EBs thing... Id like to hear u guys out...

I will let the EBMM folks answer this for you.....
but here's my 2 cents - I think Music Man sounds just fine doing their thing with the humbuckers. They do have an option for a Humbucker/Humbucker or a Humbucker/Single coil.... but on every bass, there's gonna be at least one humbucker, no Single/Single

I think theres enough people out there assembling Fender copies.....
I'm proud to play Music Man basses exclusively, and I think what they are doing is great.. sounds better to my ears than any J or P, or J or P copies

so do I. i own a 30thsr 4 and a 20th sr5hh. BUT with the introduction of a single h, YOU NEVER KNOW what might happen not to mention those BONGO 6. If they ever make a sterling 6 Id buy it. Im not fond of bongos aesthetically. They sound alright to me tho...

Got me. But if you go here:

http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/techinfo/ (also attatched)

and download the wiring specs for the Sterling HH; and again, color me rabidly ignorant, but with the rocker switch you can (can you?? looks like you can??) configure this as a (a) S (b) SS (c) HS (d) HH or whatever.

Which raises that question, is that essentially what you can do?

Musicman are famous for their big beefy MM pickups, hence why the rest of the market called them MM style pickups when they use them, MM are hardly gonna incorporate J and P style p'ups are they? Considering you buy an MM for the MM sound, not the P or J sound, plus it would look crap.

They only do H, S and P pickups, and they never did single H in the neck.

That would be an interesting PU configuration...

Photoshop is a tool of Satan.
My stupid question - if you can toggle the p/ups on the HH models to chose amongst the various permutations of coils 1-4, why would anyone get the HS, if by getting the HH they can turn off coil #3? (Aside from the reduced footprint, facilitating slapping, etc.) Or can they?

Good question. I had the impression they have different sound characteristics. But I did not have enough choices to really tell -- I only had a SR4 HS and an SR5 HH to compare...

I cant believe that purple bass isnt photoshoped. Im in awe. Maybe its got a sterling everything with a look alike sterling body and those PUs. Could BP or someone at ERNIEBALL confirm this instruments authenticity (if its real I want one ASAP).

It's real enough, but it was a prototype some 15-16 years ago. Never put into production - that's the only one that exists.

Here's the boss explaining it in 2005. Ignore amused bovinehost on right.

My only request is that the screw mounts are completely eliminated on the Single H Stingray and Sterling such as on the HS or HH models. Even better is the H design on the Stingray 5 which has "internal" screw mounts and a nice "ledge." I like having a smooth surface on which to rest my thumb and the screw mounts get in the way.

Well, I've "closed" my case discussion. My brillant ideas are all for the benefit of MM lovers everywhere. Plus, they result from controlled experiments.

Ok ok. Wasn't photoshop. Back to the original question: With two the two HH configuration, 4 band EQ, how close could you get to the single coil sound at the flick of the lever? I'd guess whatever you get is good enough for BP, as he (obviously!) considered several single coils and took a pass?

The only problem with that on the HH is that you can't isolate just one of the coils on the neck pickup. There is still going to be one of the coils on the bridge pickup active while soloing a single coil on the neck pickup.

Got it. Apparently I'm old and senile. #3 would still be an H sound. (I went back and stared at my own attatched tech drawing until it sunk in). So if you wanted the S at the neck, you need to order the HS. WRT Sterlings, relatively rare as compared to the HH supply?
