Question: Is this a good forum for pre-EBMM's? I'm new here, have an old Leo Fender MM Stingray II I may want to trade or sell, but don't want to jump in to the wrong place here. Thanks, DW

Yeah, man.. there's a for sale thread, but it's generally frowned upon if your first few posts are about selling an instrument. Stick around, get a feel for the joint and let us get to know you a bit before you put an instrument up for sale.

To answer your question, though.. yes.. you can do that here.

Very cool! Yeah, mine is a natural finish-, and a Stingray, not a Sabre- I'll take some digital pics to share and try to have them up by tomorrow. Leo was the man! I was checking out some old Jazzmasters recently, and remembered a model that never went into production back in the 60's- it was called the Marauder, and had the pickups hidden under the pickguard- very clean look, but for some reason never went into production. Maybe it was in the timeframe when Leo was negotiating the sale of Fender to CBS- I dunno. Anyway, if any of the prototypes made it into private hands, it would be quite a collectors item- anyone know any history here? (I guess I'm really dating myself by even asking this question!) Thanks- great site! Wish I'd found it sooner! DW :D

The Leo-era MM instruments were interesting; of course the Stingray Bass was the real "winner" of all the designs. When I was first starting out back in 1979-80, my local music shop sold Fender, Gibson and Music Man. Since I was a late starter (17 when I got serious about music), I got a Fender Lead II from this shop and took lessons there. After a couple of years I upgraded amps to a Music Man RD-50 112 from the same shop. At any rate, I did get to play some of the early MM guitars, mostly Sabre models. Kind of unique, I remember them as being quite heavy - but then again so were the Strats of that era! Frankly I was too much a "newbie" player to really form a good opinion of the MM guitars.

Regarding the Fender Maurader - I believe that was after Leo sold out to CBS, but during the time frame when he was still a consultant to them.

A couple more...

It looks like the first two pictures didn't come up unless you click on the attached images description- how do you get pictures to come up on the thread? Also, I couldn't post anymore here- when I tried, it said I exceeded my quota- is that normal, or just cause I'm new here? DW
