Its only wise if one deals with honesty and dignity. To play foul and cheat is foolish. You will not move your gears around and get newer gears. Hope Koogs get the bottom of it. Nevertheless, I still like this forum and the people I am hanging out with. A family we are- ain't it? ;)

PM Sent. Hope it isn't too late. Thanks.

[/hijack]

I can't wait to catch these dirty sellers!

Steve,

I sent you a PM. You'll see that one may be a hit, while the other one was a little harder. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Whitestrat, great story of hope. That is a story to remember. Glad it worked out.

I personally have had several very smooth transactions with several forum members (on both the buying and selling side)...I feel like I'm in good company here and tend to be a pretty trusting person...I would beware of new members, especially when their first post is to try to sell something. Maybe PayPal would have been a better way to pay....but even then, I'm not sure if you would have gotten your money back....It seems as if you have a good attitude and are giving him the benefit of the doubt. I'm certainly hoping it works out for you...and if it doesn't, I feel sorry for the guy who screwed you over. Please let us know how things turn out. Also, in the meantime, if you need a guitar to gig with or practice, I'd be happy to loan you one of mine.
PM me if you need anything.

Maybe I can help

Hey bro, I live no more than 30 minutes away from McAllen, TX, and frequent there a lot actually (hey, it's where all the fun stuff here is in the Rio Grande Valley). Anyway, if you need any assistance or help, please, don't hesitate to ask. I'm not sure what Koogs is doing with information retrieval, but he can contact me too if he needs assistance with the matter.
There are very few dealers here who carry ebmms. Now while that may be irrelevant (because who knows where this cesar guy got his), I remember going to Melhart Music in McAllen once (ok, I go often to see this sweet silo that's just so..........), but I digress.
Once when I was in that store, I remember one of the employees telling me about this one particular guy that just loved ebmms, and that he owned quite a few. This is one place to start. The guys that work there are pretty much the same guys I see whenever I'm there, usually Saturday's (not often, maybe once in a two month period or when I have an inservice in McAllen).
I have an luncheon in McAllen this Thursday and was planning on stopping by to see that silo again. I'll ask around (someone's gotta remember a black sparke jp). Any info I can get, I will forward it to you.
I'm sorry you have to go through this, bro. This really sucks.
Again, you or Koogs feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance due to my proximity.
Take care.

Thanks for your good words.
Yeah - I still believe the guy sent the guitar but the UPS failed. Hoping to find it. Of course I will keep all of you here updated with this story.
It is very kind of you about loaning a guitar. Thanks you very much but there is no such need. I have one to practise. :)

If it's any comfort, I bought a bass from a forum member a few years ago, and it took 7 weeks to turn up. (he was in the US and I'm in the UK)

I had started to get very nervous as time went on and to cover my own back had started a claim to recover my payment (which had gone through Paypal).

As I didn't know the seller well it was difficult to be sure if I'd been ripped off or not, and while I'd have loved to have believed everything he was telling me, all I knew for sure was I'd paid a lot of money and had no bass to show for it.

I'm sure he'd started to worry too, especially when the claim process began, but luckily for both of us it arrived on the last day before a decision was going to be made, and I cancelled the Paypal claim. He might have been wondering if I was being truthful, and I might have ended up with both money and bass had I been less than honest.

Had I paid the extra for tracking (or maybe for both our piece of minds, we'd shared the cost) we would have had some idea where it was and who to complain to, and I've always taken the chance to pay for tracking from then onwards.

Where you from man?

I live in McAllen too, and if I can be of any help let me know. I've been to Melhart's since I was in junior high. I've been back lately to look at a certain tobacco burst ASS. I'm hoping I can snatch that one soon.

Anyway, hopefully this situation gets resolved. I've heard (from Melharts AND from Muir) of a certain guy who has 3 JP models. He takes them to Muir to get serviced. I'll ask around if need be.

Man I missed most of this, hope it gets sorted, I've bought 3 of my 5 balls from my fellow knuckleheads, the though that someone would...not complete on a deal is just horrible...

Hey Koogs, can you track down Esther Binnie, I was sweet on her in high school and she's not where she used to be now!

I know I'm miles away from all this, but if there's anything I can do please say...

I have a story to tell. Might shed some hope/light on this situation. I'm not saying they are identical, but I know what you're going through... a bit. No names though. The deal went through, and I'm a happy man now. I'm glad my earlier suspicions weren't founded. But I thought I'd share the experience, which was a bit harrowing...

I came to an agreement with another forumer here with regards to a purchase of a fine instrument sometime in early jan 2008. the price was agreed, and everything seemed peachy. I said I needed a couple of days before my company's bonus came in, so he agreed to hold the purchase for me. But he did ask for a deposit so he could flip the cash for another deposit he committed on another guitar. So, fine. I sent the deposit the very next next day, because there was some fumble at the bank, and my wife had no choice but to go back the next day. And he got it.

So, about a week later, I sent the rest of the balance payment also by wire transfer. All this while we were in PM contact. I did get his contact details, address and number, and he had mine. He told me the guitar would be shipped out in a couple of days, and he'll send me the tracking number once he got it. But apparently now, his computer had broken down, and had to use a friend's comp to PM me. He said he's going out of town for a few days, and would send the guitar when back. How convenient, I thought.

Fast forward one week. No news. I dropped him an email and a PM, asking what happenned. The worst bit is, he stopped posting on the forums totally at that time, so I didn't know if he was dead or alive. I contemplated posting like this on the forum, but I thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. You'd never know. I'd wait a bit more.

Another week passes. We're almost into Feb now. Still no news, and no contact. Now I'm getting a bit worried. I tried PMs and Emails, and still no news. I even tried calling, and no answers. No call backs eitther. But it never occured to me to leave a voicemail. So I waited.

Another week passes. And it's the Chinese New Year (Feb 7th). I had dropped him a email and PM just before this saying I hoped the guitar was on its way, and that it's actually traditionally bad luck for a chinese to owe or be owed something that crosses the new year mark. No response. I called him this time, and left a voice mail. The very next morning, I tried calling, and THANK GOD! He answered. Then he explained to me that he had some personal issues to take care of, and was still out of town. he hadn't been back home for 2 weeks. He was looking after his grandparents. Damn. How could I blame him for this? So I said it's ok. I just hope he keeps me updated at least once in a while so I don't worry so much. At least now I know he's willing to talk to me over the phone, so I don't think this guy is dodgy anymore. Just my luck that he's busy...

Another week passes, and still no news from him. Eventually, I get another PM from him saying he's still stuck, and can only get home the next week. So, I wait.

I called him the week after, and still no response. Maybe the 14 hour timezone difference is really hard to gauge, or he's an early sleeper. I don't know. But at least he'd reply me with PMs eventually. So, this time, I got a PM from him, saying he's home! Just got in, and there's a snowstorm! so he'll try to get the guitar out within the week.

Come midweek, and I get a PM from him. "The guitar is now with UPS, and I'll give you the tracking number soon once I get it." I waited for the number. I got it the next day afternoon, and I imediately checked it against the UPS website. It was legit, and the guitar was ON ITS WAY!!!!!! Yay!!!! Finally!!!!

Now, it's sitting at home, and has become my number 1 player. For all that stress and worry, it was worth it. I felt bad suspecting bad things about this seller, and am glad none of them were real. But half the time while I was waiting, I was indeed worried. But when I foudn out the reason why he was occupied, I relented. Grandparents come first. I would have done the same thing...

So, I think it's worth holding on to hope that something might have cropped up in this situation. For all you know he might have had a personal event or something. But if the guy really has gone underground, then give him hell. heh...

Lionel, how's the 20th working out for you? Good I hope. Sorry about all the hang ups but thank you for the kind words. The transaction between me and Lionel with the 20th, and the transaction between me and BigTony are just a few that showcase how the members of this forum are good people, and sometimes stuff just comes up.

In the meantime, I hope we see a good outcome with this sparkle JP. Keep us posted!

I've had nothing but great dealings with fellow forumites. Let's give 'em the benefit of the doubt for now...
It's nice we have such great support here and watch out for one another.

Did you get the Strat you bought from me?

How weird that you're a member here - I didn't know that.

I've done bass swaps with Ben (Old Toe) and Brad (Bdgotoh), as well as a sale to Larry (Mobay45) with absolutely no hitches...many stories like that here.

Every once in a while, you get a bad apple. Was the Forumite a long-standing member, or just an occasional poster?

From Harlingen, but currently live in La Feria. Cool.
Ask Mike from Muir guitars. He should know as I think he does most of the guitar service stuff there.
The one thing that pisses me off about Melhart's is that they have all of the EBMM's locked. I mean, some are no higher than 2 feet off the ground and they are locked...what a freakin' tease!:D
Yeah, maybe we can help this guy out.
