Sorry for the brief hijack...

For fsmith,

I truly love my EG5 module - has a really nice bite to it without sounding abrasive... almost like a Mk. IV. I'm currently using a VX module for cleans. I also have the MHG module which is pretty cool if you want Recto tones without some of the muddiness. I hope your Mod 50 brings you as much joy as my has for me.

married with 2 kids, no social life, i can get quite excited on the toilet with a catalogue of amps fx or guitars.

I burst out laughing when I read this, it could have been written by me!

Excellent poll!!! This has crossed my mind before. Personally, before joining a band a couple of years ago, it had been around 12 or 13 years maybe since I bought anything guitar wise. I was quite happy with my N4 into my Fender Head. I got my JP6 because I figured I could do with something more versatile and modern. And boy does it deliver! :-D

Joining the band meant buying some effects and stuff and ironing out noise problems with my amp. If I hadn't joined that band, aside from the JP6 I guess I wouldn't have bothered buying anything. I'm hardly ever clued up about new technology. I wish I had more patience to try new stuff, but mostly I just want to play.

Same thing happened to me, one of the guys in Yellow 9 wanted to do a side-project with me and I went on a bit of a spree to do a wet/dry setup. Other than that I generally play dry. I blame Tommy and Steve Morse for putting the idea into my head! Now I have so many ideas for sound that I am running out of time to experiment with them.

25% player and the rest You all know :D.

I play my guitars at least 12 hours per week and would play more, but my profession won't give me enough time to start a band... I spend a lot of my time abroad etc. which gives plenty of time to surf around the net and discover all sorts of cool guitars, that I really wouldn't be needing, in a manner similar to this... "Oooh what a cool looking PRS... and an EBMM Axis, too! Yummy! Gotta get'em both and compare them with each other..."

love the feel of the Albert in my hands. I play everyday and I am getting better. I love my Ric 4003 too but it lives in its case 7-24 since Albert moved in. I love cool stuff like apple lap tops, ducati's, vintage honda's, automatic watches etc. 100 % gearhead for sure.

I'm gonna go with 75/25... I love playing and certainly have a bit of gear, but if I had to I would fall back on my JP6 and a good combo tube amp.

I would have guessed that for you, Pete. You are obviously into gear to an extent, but when I've seen you play, you tend to keep it relatively uncomplicated gearwise.

25/75... I'm a gear whore. I think I've finally settled on my guitar of choice, now I just need to find the amp. Hopefully I'll know in about 16 weeks when my Egnater is ready.

Hmmm....I thought I was more of a gearhead, but what's an Egnater? It sounds like something that Egghead would have used to capture Batman...:p

That's because I can make just as many mistakes with a simplistic approach, so why add more mayhem to the mix? Although now that I think about it, maybe I should build a ridiculous rig so I can blame the mistakes on my FX?:D

Hmmm...Interesting approach. I keep buying better gear because I thought it would make me sound better. Maybe I should go in the other direction so I can blame my equipment for my crappy sound. :p

Mike,

Great thread you started, I am a gear head, trying to find that sound, getting closer and honestly the best thing I have bought is the Soldano amp from Pete, it goes back to the simple approach, easy amp to use and dial in especially using the GT-8, still suck at playing but gets me to the point I hear whats in my head.

75% Player, 25% Player Hater (someone had to say it.) ;)

For years and years I just had the one electric, one bass and one acoustic. Now I have three EBMM guitars, so I guess I have gotten more gear-happy.

BTW, sometimes I really have a tough time deciding which one of two Silos to bring to gigs and rehearsals. I don't know how you guys with five or more can decide which guitar to grab on your way out of the door. It would take me all day.

Well now that another piece of gear has come in feeling less than 25% LOL;)

At the risk of hijacking my own thread....Ruh Roh....what did Keith get now!?! ;)

So Keith, I've been meaning to respond to your last post here. How do you have your GT8 hooked up to the Soldano? Are you using the GT8 amp models, or do you have it hooked up via the 4 cable method so you preserve the Soldano tone? I play my GT8 through a 1986 JC-120 - mainly because that's the amp I have, but also because I'm pretty sure that Roland tuned the GT8 with a JC-120. I've been afraid to try something else as I'm not sure how the amp would interact with the GT8 tone.

Mike,

I am using the GT-8 with the small amp combo output using the GT-8 amp models, I then dail in the Soldano to the amp model I am using have not tried the other method but have been wanting to try it, also trying to program my own settings like my broher does with his GT-6, just would rather practice than spend all night tweaking knobs.
