Mmmkay, as I promised in my introduction thread, here's my Silo Special with it's brand spanking new tuning knobs and switch tip. Before you ask: neck pickup is a cool rails that some kid painted white then sold to me for dirt cheap (cause it was painted), but the paint is chipping with age; bridge pickup is custom wound by Kent Armstrong and is basically a hot PAF pickup designed to sound like the one used by a guitarist that's taboo t mention around here on an awesome debut album in 1978 (gee, who could that be? :p ).

Anyway, here's my baby:

If you look closely you can see special guest appearances by the whammy bar and tone knob of my OLP beater and my Jazz III pick :p

Is that neck finished??

Back then the necks had a satin finish on them; the last 6-bolt Silhouette I got my grubby little paws on was a circa 1990 version and the neck had taken on the glossy feel from really being played; it kind of looked like marantz's neck.

Back in the 1990s I was a PRS guy - I had a 1992 CE (they were all 24s back then) and the neck was finished in satin nitro; it got glossy with use.

I read in an old guitarist magazine, that the necks used to be finished with a mix of wax and gun oil. I dont know if it,s true ,but thats how it kind of feels. It,s not sticky, feels polished, very fast. But not in a ibanez way(i,ve got a s540 custom made.dont play it any more, gave it to my son.he loves it). It,s the most comfortable neck i,ve played. Love it. I want another but hard tail. I dont have the trem arm, i,ll have to see if Blind Lemon can work his magic.

The wax/gunstock oil mix is what they use now.
