Wondering year and original paint color of a bass with serial number 36878. Not sure what the letter is before hand, but im hoping that isnt a problem. It is a stingray4 in a dark green color, definitely is before 97. Wondering if the green is original.

Well .. here's the thing .. this bass was completed on 2/19/93 and was shipped to store called Broadway Music in Merrillville, Indiana. The finish is Translucent Teal.

We didn't start using letters before the 5-digit serial numbers until 1997 or so, so that fits. The Trans Teals from that era were sprayed darker than they are now. So that all checks out. But here's the thing ... you don't indicate what sort of fretboard your bass has ... all we know is that it left the factory as an unlined fretless. That may be the part that isn't original.

Are you sure it was unlined? It is a lined fretless currently. It may have had the lines added afterwards perhaps.

The finish doesnt seem to be transparent at all, however. hmm

Sorry, it was lined. My mistake! But the finish is definitely Trans Teal as we had no other types back then. There's just probably a lot of coats on it!

nevermind i found that the bass in question (which is on ebay at the moment) has bee nsold on ebay previously. the previous auctioner was more honest about the bass and the finish is not original. Nor is it professionally done (drips etc).

Ready to buy E21414?

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and (hopefully) real soon the proud owner of a Stingray...so my brother forced me to check the serial number before I buy anything and post it here. Here it is: E21414. Judging from the pictures of the bass it is a black 4-string, 3-band EQ...so I guess its up to the answer I get here if I should buy it or not :)
Thanks!

klextas, welcome, this StingRay bass was completed on March 7 2001. It is a black/maple, and was originally shipped to the UK. Good Luck -

It's still there...but maybe I can convince it to move and come live with me! Thanks!

Just purchased this bass on eBay. Hoping to get it next week. There are a few things I want from this. I would like to know it's finish date, where it shipped to, it's features (to see if any were changed), and I would like to see if the seller's story was true about it being a NAMM Show piece.

The serial number is E23642.

I recently purchased my first Stingray, and I was wondering if I could also get some background info about it!

The serial number is E47970. It's currently sunburst with a white guard and a white pickup cover - also string through body. I was wondering when it was made, and also what colour combination it left the factory with? Was this white pickup cover an after-market addition? And is there anything peculiar about the string through body aspect?

Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
