Wow, a 4 humbucker title.

Question for you guys, for anyone who has both an SR4 H and HH, or who otherwise just knows the answer. I don't have a single H on hand at the moment, so can't check this out myself.

Is the bridge H on the SR4 HH in exactly the same position of the pup on the single H? I had just assumed it would be closer to the bridge on the HH, but if I'm not mistaken, in photos it looks like it's in exactly the same position.

Since I was assuming it's closer to the bridge on the HH, I was also assuming that was accounting for the difference I was hearing between my Ash/Maple single H's of the past, and my LE SR4 HH/Maple when in the first/bridge-pup-only position (setting the eq/tone controls set the same). I've been having to cut the onboard treble just a touch more to get the HH to sound the same. But if the pup is in the same spot ... then that's another incorrect assumption.

Now I'm thinking it's most likely the case that I used to cut the treble on my amp more than I do now, causing me to cut it onboard more than I used to.

So, if someone could confirm those pup positions, I'd be forever in your debt. Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I'd appreciate it alot, for real!

I've got an SR4HH, and it's in the same exact spot.

Thanks for the confirmation. So now that I'm getting THE classic single H sound out of my HH, in ADDITION to the other great sounds you can get out of it (particularly position 3/middle ... lookout!), I'm even more stoked with the HH. What a killer setup.

You really need to play them all to really know.

just sayin

Hmmm ... to really know what? I think maybe you just skimmed the post or made an assumption about the content based on the title. And no foul there, I do it all the time! But my question wasn't the usual "what's the difference in sound between ... " yata yata.

I've played all the Stingray varieties - that's how I knew my HH wasn't sounding the same (as my single H) when using just the bridge pup, until I got my amp dialed in the way I used to set it with my H SR's. I just don't have an SR4 H on me right now to do the pup placement comparison I was wondering about.

The only present day EBMM variety I haven't played is still the single H Bongo 4 or 5, and no 6'ers yet. But I hope to remedy that in the near future. :)

Cool. I never tried making any one of mine sound like the other. I like the way they each sound. Of course I have never moved to the double pickup combinations either.

Maybe what you need is one of each? :D

I like the way you think. :)

I know what you mean about appreciating the sound of each different species for what it is. But since I've decided to consolidate down to 1 Ray and 1 Bongo (for now, anyway), I was thinking it would be ideal if I could get the great added sounds from the SR4 HH setup, while still being able to get the classic single H sound when in position 1 on the HH ... and turns out you can, which makes perfect sense and is just way too cool!

Mathew - for me, the neck H on the HH doesn't get in the way at all. I never even feel it. But I sure hear it. The sound in position 3 (all 4 coils) is a GREAT slap sound. You have to be careful with it ... you can hurt people.

I find slap on the HH just as easy as on the H, not problems at all. Now on my attitude bass, forget it!

No the HH doesn't seem to affect slap playing, imho.
