At the london international music show I played every single bongo on display (about 5) and came to the conclusion that (despite how great the HH's and HS's sound) I just thought the single H was the greatest. It was everything I love about the sound of the stingray but more powerful, more defined, more ... excellent.

Also played the 20th SR5 HS, that was EPIC, 2 band SR4 - sounded sweet, fretless SR5 - showed me why I love rounds on fretless.

So Jack, whenever you said the single H bongo was best - I am sorry but I never really believed you. I was wrong. I will be getting one as soon as I can, hopefully with piezo too. Loved it.

Well, credit where credit is due - 'twas Mister Big Poppa who told me way back when that the single H was The Secret Weapon.

I didn't entirely believe him then, but I surely do now.

And just between us, I'm working on getting yet another single H Bongo 5. Details are sketchy at present, but I'm pretty sure it's going to work out.

Glad to hear you've discovered BP's secret weapon. Really a great design, isn't it?

I think I must have played the same Bongo as you - 4 banger, Lava Pearl?

I was in luuurve I did struggle with the string spacing as I'm so used to a Sterling, but I think I can get over that. I didn't play any of the others (as they were all fivers except for one) so I don't know whether I'd prefer to get single H or HH, but may go for a simple Hp to start with

I loved it! Immediately after playing the Bongo I played a HH Sterling - it felt like home, but I was amazed at how, almost... weak it sounded compared to the Bongo!

Did BP's little harmonics trick too - hee hee that was fun!

My single H Bongo is the most fun bass I have! Plug it in and play, you'll get a great sound right off the bat!

I bought the single H Bongo without ever having tried one--purely based upon the high praise it received. I had tried mostly HH Bongos. I tried an HS. You know, I wasn't disappointed in the least when my 4H Bongo arrived. It's got the mojo.

Well, Im not sure about the different Bongo pickup configs, I've never owned a Bongo. But I can attest that the single H is also awesome for Stingrays, nothing against the HH and HS Rays, but there's just something very special about the single H.

Sterlings are a whole different story, the HH and HS models are both out of this world.

Well, since I know Zak loves the sound of the SR4H he bought from me, and I know how much I loved the sound of that particular bass ... his comments here really strike a chord with me (pun intended). I STILL haven't been able to play a Bongo H (though eggman graciously offered to have me over to check his out .. thx again eggman, I still might take you up on that), but for me, the deal is pretty much sealed. I can't think of a better config for the Silver Bongo 4 I'm trying to visualize into existence (hint hint, BP & crew).

Don't get me wrong, the other configurations sounded very very good, but more pickups isn't always better.

I A/B'd all of them, and I think people were getting frustrated by how much time I spent there - but I just don't care! It was lots of fun.
