Flip flop paints are cool. Mystic Dream of course...lol

Curious, I was told (I am by no means a pro) that it takes several more layers to get a good effect with that kind of paint. Anyone know for sure?

Cannondale put it on their bike frames for a couple of years. They called it purpleen. Don't know if it was cost or lack of popularity that ultimately killed it.

Klein did it for a few years, too. I was told by a frame mfr. that it's an expensive process.

I like it with primary colors, but secondary and tertiary colors made me kind of queasy.

I'm not trying to put a damper on this, and I have no experience painting guitars, but I would wonder if this paint would be so thick that it would effect the overall tone of the instrument?

I wouldn't think so. The JP has the Mystic Dream color which is basically a flip flop paint I believe. Still sounds like a JP to me compared to others with a "normal" paint scheme.

Hmmm, you may have a point. After all, it is true that black instruments sound heavier.

I doubt it but don't know for sure either.

My experience with the stuff was on a mountain bike frame. It wasn't any heavier than a frame with a normal paint job and it stood up to the abuse of the trail.

the flake stuff from house of kolor looks cool, but the regular flip stuff looks as tacky as the cars in the sample pics. entirely too fast and far too furious for my tastes.
