Do you use strap locks, and if so , what ones do you use? I'm looking into putting sosme on y bass , and wanted to see what works on a MusicMan best.

I use the Ernie Ball locks. They haven't failed on me at all since I got them when they first came out. I've used D**lops before that have broken and sent my basses and guitars falling to the floor and the DiMarzio systems just wasn't my cup of tea.

Another vote for the EB straplocks! Love 'em (after years of using Dunlops).

No joke, the Ernie Ball Strap Locks are the best design out there. I sold the guitarist in my band on the EB locks after using Dunlops for years. I'm still working on getting him to play a EBMM guitar but so far so good.

I want to try EBMM's but I have all my basses outfitted with Schallers. Can someone tell us the difference in the way these work? Never had a problem with them, but does EBMM have a trade in program?

I've beeen using Schaller strap locks for years, but when I bought my 2008 LE Sterling 5-HH in late July I wanted to try a different strap lock system. So I bought a gold set of EBMM strap locks for it.
I like the design of the EBMM system. It's a simple male/female design where the entire strap pin locks into the strap post. The only way to release the pin is to depress the two spring loaded releases simultainiously. With this system the entire strap pin is entirely locked inside the strap post and there's no way it can slip out. The Schaller system leaves one entire side of the strap U clip open. So it's possible that the U clip could become dislodged off the strap post causing the instrument to fall. It's never happened to me but I see how it could happen.
I'm going to buy another EBMM set but in chrome/nickel for my white Stingray 5 this week. I'll put them on one of my Neo-Tech Max Bass straps.

If i didn't have dunlops installed on 3/5 of my current guitars/basses i'd use ernie balls because nothing of theirs has ever let me down, but dunlops seem to be a safe choice, they've not let me down yet. That said when i bought one set one of them broke as soon as i opened the packet, but it seems if they're going to break at all it's at the beginning of their life...

Glad I saw this post. I am a pretty aggressive player and the locks I have been using failed more then once causing many chips and dents in my bass from it falling, . I "rigged" it with huge washers but still am not 100% confident with it since the slightest pressure on the release button causes a catastrophy.
I will be trying the EB locks for sure.

I've used the Schaller system on all of my instruments for years and have had no problems with it. It's simple and secure - however, these days they can be quite difficult to find. I had a minor mid-life crisis when I used the Dunlop system on one bass for a while and I can report that it was as much use as a snake in an ass-kicking contest - utterly riseable!

After years of using Schallers and having the damn horse-shoe thing constantly spinning around and dropping my basses despite tightening the nut with a wrench...I switched to Dunlops and had no problems other than the minor frustration of a C-clip flying across the room once or twice while uninstalling/reinstalling them.

the problem with schallers are they only have one washer in the pack. my jazz had a roundtrip when the hole in the strap became bigger than the straplock itself.. hehe.. luckily i managed to grab it with my leftie and swing it in a safe direction.
the eb locks have 2 big washers and looks solid as can be. i guess they will be standard equipment on the 25th?

If the EB's were available in stores, I'd give them a try, but they aren't so I keep using the Dunlops.

I can use the original screw when installing my Schallers. That way the fit is perfect.

Welcome to the forum.
The EB strap locks use the same screws as the stock buttons that it comes from the factory with.

Me personally..I don't care if I have to force a telephone pole sized screw into it. My main concern is that in the middle of a gig my ax is not going to be flailing off into oblivion if I see it fit to get a little rough.
I don't want to get into specifics but, the ones with the horseshoe that "slide" onto the strap pegs..well lets just say I hope you don't mind all kinds of damage when it inadvertantly releases during a moment of blissfull bass fury and damages the bass or other members equipment..or even worse..hurts someone. Been there unfortunatly.

I have never had a problem with my Schallers, but I put a bit of thread lock on them when I am assembling. I really would like to see these new EB ones up close though. I may end up using them in the future since they are getting such rave reviews.
