Capt You are a challenge to me to say the least.

If I knew the name or wanted to announce it I would have.

Please do not respond to this. THis thread is about a new bass.

SSS all the way for me... it might not have the versatility of the HSS but it will be a unique setup for sure. Can't wait to see/hear/play one! :D

I'm thinking the same about the SSS myself......but not thinking of it in any way of being less versitile..just different.

I asked BP earlier in the thread as to how they go for 'tone', his reply was 'ears baby'...so I'm eager to hear and read his thoughts on all of this, I love this Raiders of the lost Ark stuff.

Please excuse me if this has been asked/answered and/or just plain missed by me - but is this bass going to be a 4 string only or is a 5 string version being developed as well?

Oh and I really like what I am seeing!!

EDIT: Just figured out how to search better and found BP said yes to a five string on 10/23. Please go about your business - nothing to see here.

Yes, BP mentioned earlier in the thread that there would be a 5-string version.

Not only that, he said that it would have the Bongo neck profile. I've probably got a SSS 5 string in my future. It eases the pain of not getting a rosewood neck even considering Pete's insanely good price for a BFR.

Now, I just need to know if maple fretboard and piezos are going to be an option.

As for the name, I've always said that they could have called the Bongo the Musicman Moist Sock Puppet and I would have bought one. The same is true of this bass.

Perhaps BP will call it the Conga just to annoy the people who had a problem with 'Bongo.' Or, even better for the three pickup model--the Triangle. :D

A new bass is an exciting time all round. Exciting for the head of the company. Exciting for designers. Exciting for distributors and dealers. And obviously exciting for the enthusiasts. This new bass has been given the best possible start by the sharing of its path in production. The anticipation that is building up is rampant. I just hope that when the bass finally gets out to dealers that someone in my neck of the woods will have a few in stock to try out. If not then a trip is on the cards!

BP, my only question is What took so long? I mean, Personally I've always wondered about SSS basses, and for some reason assumed it was impossible since I never saw them... stupid I know, but for some reason I always thought that something stopped it from working right... or was there something that made it hard to make it work? (Hope I'm not being too nosy)

OK, I lied. 3 Questions. Is there a name decided on? I'm not asking to know the name (Although I won't complain if you share it if it does exist). I'm wondering if you guys have a specific name for it (As in a name for production/distribution, not a codename or something). Hope I'm not asking too much... if I am I apologize in advance.

And I would just like to say that bass is amazing. My jaw dropped the second I saw it. I dunno how I can get the money, but I want one.:D

Read here:

As for SSS pickups, I think EBMM already had one perhaps as a prototype as seen on Rod Trussbroken website:

BP another question for you (btw, thank you for the proto body shape answer earlier). Generally how long do new models stay in the proto phase? With this one I have a decent idea of the cycle length (assuming it was in the works for a while before we heard about it)... but with the Bongo and the Sterling about how long do new designs stay in the development phase? Is this bass in the typical cycle? Thanks.
