I can't wait for these to come out.

I'm fairly scared about making major mods to my MusicMan guitars.

You can get a Sterling and mod the hell out of it and not have to worry about things like how much of the resale value have I lost.

Will definitely by considering a Silo-tele modification :)

It would also make the perfect keeping in the boot- sorry- trunk ;) -guitar.

When are these getting to the UK?

Nice Tool reference. I'll see you down in Arizona Bay.

Haha... Good song.
Hadn't heard it in a while, cracked me up... actually, made my morning :)

...I think the Sterling line is a great idea...I don't think the introduction of a separate and clearly-defined import series cheapens the domestic products of EBMM in any way.

+1
just quitely, I can't wait for these to come out...

You know, it's not as backwards as everyone thinks!
Now if you'll excuse me.. I have to walk my dingo before i'm allowed to play Atari.

I'm sure the games are cheap......if you can find them.

How many cranks of the generator do you have to do to just noodle around for a couple of hours? ;)

You never said anything about how all the foreign members of this forum might feel about your USA elitism. They don't give a crap about your fear of globalization. What economics class did you take in college that convinced you that globaliation was a defacto bad thing?

Dude, chill... No point getting angry over someone who's already fixated in their views. Good post man... A bit long, but enjoyed reading it.

I'm foreign. Hell, I'm from so far a corner of the world, that many people in the US think it's a part of China! (no joke). I don't see the attractiveness of US made guitars as a location issue. I think, it's best to go for the source of the product, and the place it originated from, until the rest of the world catches up. For guitars, Japan is ALMOST there. But like the rest of their products, they will never have that final closing step to perfection, no matter how anal they are. Their cars will always lack something the Germans have, their watches will always miss something the Swiss didn't, and their guitars will always omit something the Americans do.

The Fender MIJ/MIA thing isn't even a good argument. They key reason why the MIJs and CIJs looked so good, is because the American production was dropping in standards. But lets look at the top lines of both countries. Look at a Sugi or Combat or Navigator. How do these compare against DeTemples, D'Pergos and McInturffs? I think they're still a bit far off from their US counterparts.

But when we look at budget lines, look how far the Japan and Korean production pieces have come. They're so damn good at what they do now, it's amazing what you'd get for the dollar these days.

Globalisations is a fact, and inevitable. The resistance to globalisation is what is bringing GM and other car manufactures down, and why the German marques are far ahead of what Chrysler could be.

But again, the Sterling line is NOT globalisation.

What do you mean?
They are everywhere over here! Hottest thing out since Arcade Pong just a few months back!! It's amazing what they can do with technology these days.

Speaking of amazing technology....

How about that new Sterling line - haha and we are back on topic :D

I think it's great that you're offering an affordable alternative to the US line, BP. Sometimes it's nice to have a lesser expensive version of your main guitar to use for practicing at home or taking over to another band members house when you're not doing a full rehearsal. It's nice to not have to worry about knocking around a $1500 guitar just to fiddle about with a friend.

It's also important to make your line available to beginning guitarists so they can eventually move up to your US range, I think. I was never able to buy a US made guitar when I first started.

adopting the Good/Better/Best strategy.

EBMM have innovative and exciting guitars that are very different from alot of mainstream guitars. They're not Good, Better, or Best. They're all ****ing awesome.

Owning a bass isnt the vested interest I was referring to. Being a consumer extra choices are nice.

I think you make some very good points. SOme I agree with and others are custom fit to suit your feelings. Thats fine. WHere is the move to foriegn production? Nothing has been moved.....there is another choice in the market.

I cannot make everyone happy. If I count the votes it is about 300-2 that this works. Bingo. If I ignore the copies of our stuff then how can I blame people who capitalize on our designs and efforts? By our inaction we have created an opportunity for them.

Thanks for the MBA reference but I never went to college and there isnt an mba inour employ., But you hit the nail on the head....It's a business.

YOu are dead wrong on who is making what for who. I am not involved in any aspect other than guaranteeing the quality. THe Parks are paying for the right to make these guitars. For them. I dont sell them, collect the money, handle the returns. I am spporting the brand by giving the customers aq quality choice instead of leaving it to the rip off artists.

In the interest of an open dialogue nobody has moderated your hijack. Please next time start a new thread. DOes anyone think madeincali is planning on sticking around?.....I smell agenda. Maybe it was his name.

You started this thread as a trial balloon to gauge opinion. I weighed in with mine -- you didn't put a disclaimer saying, "Only thumbs-up need reply." If it is running 300-2 as you indicate, then you have your answer -- maybe. I wouldn't use the response here in this forum as definitive -- official company products forums are always crawling with KAs that will tell you whatever you want to hear.

I do not think you will be served well by the name choice of "Sterling" for the import line. That name probably floated to the top in focus groups or brainstorming sessions -- but you could have had better. First, "Sterling" is the name of one of your EB/MM models. Now you are going to have confusion in the marketplace:

Dude1: "Hey man, I just got myself a new Sterling bass dude!!!"

Dude2: "That looks like a StingRay to me dude!!!"

Dude1: "No way dude! It is a Sterling StingRay by MusicMan dude!!!"

Dude2: "Dude, you're all messed!!! MusicMan makes a Sterling and it makes a Stingray dude!!!"

Dude1: "Don't taze me, dude!!! I'm telling you, it is a Sterling StingRay by MusicMan dude!!!"

Do we need that confusion?

You should have called it the Big Poppa line. That name woulda "popped" in the marketplace. "Big Poppa" is marketable -- use it.

On a lighter side, given that this line is sort of an entry-level junior to the grown-up Music Man -- how about "Sterling by Music Boy" ???

I do share your frustration with the rip offs. That stuff hurts everyone.

As I said in my initial post, I do wish every success for your import line.

I remain,

MadeInCali
