How about a JP that has a piezo on the bridge and some fancier Inlays and perhaps the old mystic dream paint

I think at some point there should be a line drawn between an EBMM and a sterling. Offering something that's the same specs as an EBMM would not do good for the JP6. People would rather buy the sterling.

Plus, Piezos are expensive...:p

I know i'm late to the party but here go's anyway.I like the idea of a cheaper bass that I can take out to play and don't have to worry about it getting damaged.I like to hang out in the park and play and there's alway some one spilling beer and whatnot all over the place. If someone did that to my sterling I would put a foot up there rear, and that's not to conductive to having a fun party. As soon as get some extra bead I'm going to pick one up.

To Pat: Are these guitars going to be able to have the plastic nut replaced with graphtech and what not? Which measurements would I need? That's the first thing I plan to do if I get a model that has a plastic nut. Also will an original FR locking trem be able to fit on the Axis model? Thanks.

same size as any standard Fender style nut. Graphtech nut should drop right in with a little sanding. the string slots will need to be adjusted/filed for height.

the keys are 18:1 locking tuners. They are very good quality. Replace em if you want, but I've been rocking an AX20 with these tuners for a couple of months and they hold up against Sperzels. I own 2 Suhr guitars that both use Sperzels and cannot find any reason to change out (our tuners)

I guess this is why the Sub1's are no longer being made.

Nah I wouldn't say that.
Made a LONG way from SLO and totally different price bracket and to a certain degree targeted at a totally different customer base.

In my opinion the subs were never really gonna be a long term production model anyway

If they hold up well I won't be changing them. Thanks for the info though. It will all depend, maybe I'll change the pots to CTS and the jack and that'll be it. Maybe add a new bridge pickup or a set from a US axis in there. We'll see how it goes!

I think the Sub 1 guitars were great. The playability of the guitar was really no different, quality wise, from any of the other EBMM stuff.

Here's what I think killed the Sub 1.

-The painted neck
-The textured finish on the body
-The pickups

That's what I thought, it isn't precisely clear to me if you were refering to Sterling by Music Man or EBMM Sub 1's. If you are saying Sub 1's were made somewhere other than SLO........ then I have this to say.........

All Sub 1's were made in San Luis Obispo California USA. It says so on each's sticker on the back of each's headstock.

wasnt referring to that at all, i know where they were made... i do own one lol

i liked all those things on the sub actually! The bridge pup on mine actually sounds very good.

In my views:
  • Bongo's and other high quality EBMM instruments also have painted neck, but that never killed them.
  • The textured finish on the bodies I think it's what sets them apart.
  • Pickups? I can't pronounce myself because I have not played one yet, but if people put Seymour's Slash model pickups on a $$$$ Les Pauls, nothing is stopping those with a sub to fit them with the p/ups of their choice.
