duuuude +1, that is the greatest metal solo period, I dont care if its not the fastest, nothing touches that shred, Cementary Gates gets close though.
Octavarium is my favorite JP solo, from the 7 string shred to the Jingle bell interlude to the haunting outro, that song is really what made me love music.
November Rain, amazing feeling in this song, longest solo for a song that ever made it to number 1
Comfurtably Numb Pulse version is without a doubt my favorite live solo
Buckethead- Too Many Humans, Nottingham Lace, Soothsayer...actually pretty much any solo he does.
When I was in 7th grade just getting into rock I can specificallly remember the 1st time I ever heard the Heartbreaker solo and my jaw dropped, I thought it was the most amazing thing I ever heard, that also hapened the first time I heard Toxicity, it changed my life, I didnt know music could ever be that heavy.

Octavarium is on a 6-string in standard tuning (other than the 12-string stuff at the beginning). No 7 strings were used on that album, even!

Two of Luke's solos really stand out to me: Jake To The Bone, and the one on Nobody's Perfect from Fee Waybill's Read My Lips record. Totally different, but both give me the goosebumps.

The guitar solo in "Lights" that Neal Schon did was perfection.

Of course, the "Stairway to Heaven" solo by Page.

The "Feel Your Love Tonight" solo by Eddie.

The "Don't Look Back" solo by Boston.

The "No More Tears" solo by Zakk.

The "Blue Collar Man" solo by (was it Shaw or Young?)

The "Stranger" solo by Jefferson Starship.

The "Love Will Find a Way" solo by Pablo Cruise.

The "Peg" solo by Steely Dan.

Just to name a few.

That's strange, I have that set as my ring tone too.
I had it in my head to learn that solo at one time. I have GuitarPort, and that program allows you to slow the solo down to half speed without changing the pitch, so I thought it would be no problem. The funny thing is, when you slow the solo down to half speed, you end up hearing MORE notes than you do at full speed. The solo became 10x more complicated when I got an opportunity to hear the individual notes. There is much more to that solo than meets the ear at full speed.

I gave up.

The "Don't Look Back" solo by Boston.

I saw Boston at Red Rocks (sick) about 10 years ago. Tom Scholz was UNREAL. It was the first time I had ever seen anything like it. He would be doing runs on the keys with his right hand and hammering through something with his left/fret hand on his guitar at the same time....all the while providing backing vocals and making it look easy.

That guy is an amazing musician.

I literally couldn't pick up my guitar for a week, because I knew I sucked.
