I usually prefer rosewood for the newer oil necks. After a while, maple tends to trap dirt and look fugly.
You wouldn't want to clean it once in a while....

Wipe it down sure...
But getting out the steel wool and lemon oil and all that? No thanks.
I prefer rosewood because it has a really warm tone. Maple is way too bright in my experience and it always feels 'wet'.
How to they feel different?...I guess my thinking is that my fingers are on the strings, not the fretboard, when I play.

the only maple i played was an ibanez. It just felt wrong to me.
Rosewood "seems" easier to clean and it matches my new shoes.![]()
