vesuvio, to me it certainly looks authentic ... except for that neckplate. Don't know what the motivation would be to substitute that one for the real one, but that neck plate did not originate at the EBMM factory.

Hi everybody,
I bought in Italy a Stingray 5 HH, Black, Rosewood fingerboard beginning of this year. Strangely the neck plate did not bear any EB MM logo, and the serial number (E45553) is kind of "laser printed" instead of carved. I checked the serial with MM Customer service, and they told me that it does not correspond to my bass.
I am pretty sure that the bass is original as I have been owning another Stingray 5 (H) for 10 years....
Does anybody have an explanation for this?

That is strange. You might try taking the plate off to see what's on the other side.

cf, if it is a pre-EB StingRay it should have a "B" followed by 1 or 2 0's, then a 4 or 5-digit number. Are you sure it is pre-EB?

Dan

Hi Dan

There´s 2 0´s. Full serial is: B 002308. I´m pretty sure it´s pre-EB. Hope you can shed a light over the production date.

It's a Pre-EB serial but, to be sure it's a Pre-EB Bass, there should be three dot markers past the 12th fret and the string retainer should be on the D&G strings. Ernie Ball Basses have 4 dots and the retainer is on the A&D.

No official "B" serial records exist but your's indicates 1977.

A comparison of serials is located:

HERE

For accuracy, dates can be located on the neck heel and in the neck pocket on the body. The neck has to be removed to view them.

P.S. Welcome to the Forum.

Thanks Rod.
My bass has got 3 dots past the 12th fret and a stringretainer on GD-strings. Actually I planned to sell the bass in question, but after the new gained knowledge I might hold on to her for at little bit longer.

PS: I browsed through the website you recomended, at found out that my friend´s pre-EB musicman must be from 1976 (It has got the "plastic" radioknob pots). Funny that two old musicman basses should happen to be in the same little city of Denmark, Scandinavia.

G'day, Dan,

As a first post, I was wondering if you could tell me a little about my SR5 S/No. E16338

I've had it for 3/4 years and I got it new here in Western Australia.

She's SAPHIRE BLACK/Black Pickguard and a Maple neck.

It's the flag ship of the fleet, which includes a couple of 'other' brands, but the Stingray is the standout.

Thanks for your time.

Elliott.

Stingray 5 HH

Hi Dan,

I just remember I asked the year of this bass (E57706).
Could you tell me when she is born please?

Thanks.

Elliot, welcome to the Forum, nice to have you here! Your StingRay was built on 9/03/04 and was originally shipped to our Australian distributor. Our information shows it originally had a maple neck with a rosewood fretboard.

Thanks, Dan.

I'm sure I will enjoy this place.

Yeah, the dealer did tell me it had a replacement neck as it suffered some shop damage. It's is in excellent condition, even today, and I got a GREAT deal on the purchase price to get me into a Stingray! Yahoo! :D

It's interesting to hear it originally had the Rosewood fretboard and I may return it to that spec but it doesn't look out of place with the maple.

Ciao, See you around the forum.

Sure, your Bongo 4 HS in Black was completed on 12/01/04 and was originally shipped to Croatia. And a warm welcome to the Forum!

Cool
